I applied to Emory after I was waitlisted at Emory, I found out now that I was accepted at Oxford. When do I have to accept at Oxford?
They said that they would tell us our decisions for oxford on April 20th, but they released them early....

My question was, do I have to accept on May 1st or is there some late deadline for Oxford College?

Colleges00701,

If you wish to remain on the Emory College wait list, I’d consult with the Office of Admission and have them advise you of what you should do. It’s a good question that you have, and may be dependent on whether you want to remain on the Emory wait list.

My best guess … and it’s only a guess… is that you can probably commit to Oxford College and still remain on the Emory wait list. If Oxford College was not affiliated with Emory University, I’d say to make the commitment, but I don’t know if that would implicate your desire to matriculate to Oxford and not Emory.

Make that call… and don’t depend on anybody here on CC.

Instead of a verbal phone call, I’d recommend that you e-mail your regional rep so you have a response in writing.

^ Thank-you for the advise everyone.

i was waitlisted at emory college and was wondering how did u find ur decision for oxford? also, i applied to oxford today, and clicked on my to-do-list, and it duplicated the documents for oxford and said they were “complete.” i mean, i didnt even write those essays, i.e. “oxford long essay.” is this an error?

^^^^ u got to check in view decisions…You should have 2 letters there, 1 for emory the other for oxford…

Essays you originally wrote for Emory are now being used for Oxford. If you apply to both schools you don’t have to repeat everything twice, even if you don’t apply to both at the same time. Sounds like everything is fine with you since everything shows complete. Just keep an eye on Opus for any “to do” notes that pop up. But there probably won’t be any.

Good luck.

I called Emory and they said that you can stay on emory’s waitlist and commit at oxford…idk if I should…

^ i called too last week and they said the opposite: if you commit to Oxford you need to cancel your name from the Emory’s waitlist! so who is right now? my D wants to stay on Emory’s list but on May 1st she has to register to a school! So confusing…

I’ll repeat my earlier post: get it is WRITING from your regional rep! Calling the office oftentimes gets you to a student intern who may or may not know the true policy. Heck, I’ve even gotten e-mails back from colleges with incorrect info regarding standardized testing, which is about a concrete as can be. If the phone answerers get that point wrong…

agree with bluebayou: and I would add the following: Emory assigns waitlist students to specific reps (not necessarily your regional since he/she wasn’t even necessarily the person who read your app originally)…get this in WRITING from the rep assigned to your application from the waitlist…and if the person answering the phone doesn’t know what you are talking about, ask to speak with someone else…as bluebayou said, it’s very common…

Just found this on Emory’s waitlist page: ([Waitlisted Students](<a href=“Admission | Emory University | Atlanta GA”>Admission | Emory University | Atlanta GA))

“Being admitted to Oxford College, will not affect your chances of being admitted from the Emory College wait list.”

I’m confused… why are there conflicting messages?

^ … will not affect your chances of being admitted from the Emory College wait list… until you enroll ( paying the deposit) at Oxford…(i talked to the admission’s lady on Monday) now i have doubts i’ll call both schools again next week.

Would declining admission at Oxford affect my chance at being taken off from the Emory wait list?? I am admitted but not so sure if i want to commit to Oxford…cuz Emory College is where i want to be at! haha

BlueBayou, thanks for your post. But I am a student worker at Emory University and NO WAY, in NO SHAPE, FORM or FASHION, do we answer these types of questions; we do not even pick up the phone when people call. Please do not speak on behalf of my University.

^ i SHARE on my 2 kids that the admission office told me they will cancel my D’s name from the waitlist if she enrolls at Oxford on May 1st( next time i will ask for her name!!) and they even passed me the financial office because i needed to ask some questions about my package…

Did you guys find out out?? What did they say?
