Just got my contract in the mail. I've been given a quad in Oxford.

So at first Oxford seemed like one of the worst dorms I couldve gotten. Its in the middle of nowhere. It houses very few students (I guess some enjoy this, but I like social areas). It has no cafeteria, although it does have a small retail counter..

But I researched a bit and found they have two bus services, The Link, and a UMich provided bus for late nights and such.

I still dont like the location AT ALL.

Does anybody know anything else about Oxford? Do people like/dislike it? How social is it? Is it quiet/noisy? I've heard mixed opinions..

I was hoping to get Couzens, Lloyd, or Markley.. Think I can find someone to switch? Should I even switch? Thanks

Personally, I think Markley and Oxford are the worst housing options at UofM. Markley is way too loud and ghetto and the rooms are tiny. Oxford is in the middle of now where, no cafeteria, and taking the buses are kind of pain all day. I think you should try to get a switch if possible. It's probably not too difficult to switch into north, which i think is a lot better option. Lloyd or couzens would be good too.

Upside is you get some pretty big rooms. No cafeteria and distance are the big downsides. Another upside is that Oxford is very close to a bunch of the fraternities, so you don't have to walk far for parties.

You'll learn to eat dinner when you are on campus for lunch. You'll survive.

And about Markley: I lived there last year and had a great time. It's a walk to class, but I never minded that. Very social atmosphere, all freshman. Good times.

Yeah I was at Oxford last year. There is actually a cafeteria but its ****ty and only serves dinner.

Pros: had a big room, personal bathroom, kitchen; close to frats
Cons: far from other dorms, far from classes, no "real" cafeteria, sometimes the bus is late or doesn't have enough room for everyone

I'm in the same boat, and was just at orientation. It is farther out than I realized, and looks sort of woodsy. That being said, I can't imagine that the walk at the start of the fall term would be totally unbearable, and I suppose there is a shuttle...

I just don't want to go through the hassle of contract reassignments. Either way, we have to take the bus so staying in north or oxford doesn't make a big difference, to me at least.
