You would presumably at least have the opportunity to go to the MA ceremony in a couple of years time.
Doing an undergraduate masters (MMathCompSci), so no MA I believe.
Sadly, no. MA- gets the same status after 21 terms but not the ceremony. Main status symbol left at Oxford is where you stand in academic marches, so not the most useful of things! (iirc, Cambridge MAs still have some other privileges left)
The best one is free high table dinners three times per year (may vary by college), though it isn’t appreciated if you try to take advantage of the privilege that frequently.
And we did get a proper MA ceremony and free dinner
@collegemom3717 @Twoin18 So we did go last month for his ceremony - had a great time. Definitely an interesting experience. Glad they had all the Latin translated into English in the program!
Congratulations! the whole process is quite medieval (literally!), but even just getting to be in the Sheldonian for an event is worth the trip We thought we had done our last ceremony, but a different Collegekid is now doing a PhD there, so we have one more round to go…
Definitely. And the livestream worked very well for the Grans back in the US (even if it was at 0530). Hope your last one is enjoying their program. Three of my son’s housemates stayed for PhDs. Two stayed at Worcester and one followed his supervisor and transferred to Oriel. Finding the vibe much different there. Said they had a black tie quiz night!
