I'm asking for a friend (I guess she's too lazy to ask the school herself)-
Is it easier to get into Oxford than Emory College?
If Emory is a student's FIRST CHOICE and money no object, should they, or can they, apply to both?
If not, should they apply to one over the other to minimize the risk of rejection?
Does applying ED make a difference one way or the other (some schools it is actually harder to get in ED)?

it is considerably easier to get into oxford. a person can apply to both without problem. you could apply early action to oxford to find out earlier because that is non-binding just to find out earlier.
while ED has a higher acceptance rate than RD it is debateable whether or not it is actually easier. the applicant pool for ED for many schools generally has recruited people, legacies, etc. who make it more difficult for the standard applicant to get in.
but yes, emory is much more difficult to get into. for people who do not get in, they sometimes suggest for that applicant to apply to oxford for admission so that they might still have a chance.

Don't quite get it, but yes, you can apply to both. If you apply ED to Emory College, and get rejected, then yes, you are no longer restricted to the binding contract. Which means that you can go to other schools that accepted you. If ED Emory accepts you, then you have to go there.

In previous years, it's easier to get in Emory College ED. This year however, the numbers are roughly the same for ED and RD. So i assume in years to come, ED and RD numbers will be similar. However, one thing ED does is that it proves you place Emory as top choice, something that Emory values a lot:showing interest.
