My D (rising senior) was quite impressed yesterday when she received a post card from Bob Halli about UA’s summer program at Oxford.

She couldn’t believe he actually handwrote it! Anyone else get such a postcard??

She submitted her application back in July. Will be doing scholarship app later this month or in Sept following officer elections for NHS and Beta.

She’s applying at several other schools and planning to major in Musical Theatre, which is an audition-based program and is a difficult major to get in. Most schools (including UA) only take about 20 kids each! YIKES!!

Her senior year begins in a week! Here we go!!

DS got one last summer. I didn’t believe it was actually handwritten, either - until I did the smear test, and then I noticed he’d even circled the building on the front. I mean, how cool is that?

My son got one this week as well! A lot of details included - not just a “Hi How are ya” type postcard. I’d forgotten how little my son gets a chance to read cursive - it took him a few minutes to get through it!

My daughter got the postcard over the weekend. I had the heads-up that one may be coming because of the great group of UA folks here on CC! What a neat, personalized gesture received on Saturday in her usual stack of standardized college mailings.

I made an ALABAMA scrap book for my daughter, as well as the typical high school book, for her graduation party. Dr. Halli’s postcard had a page of it’s own. I made a copy of the back of the postcard to place below the original. There are a few “special” pages that my daughter truly cherishes and Dr. Halli’s personal touch is certainly one of them.

So how do they decide who rates a Dr. Halli postcard and who doesn’t? My D never received anything like this. I have to think that the vast majority of students don’t.

I don’t know if this makes a difference or not, but my son applied the first week registration was open and sent in his transcript the same week. His SAT scores were already in the system because he had designated UA as a free score report when he took it back in June 2011. We also did a personalized visit through the Honors college back in March. - I guess all this together indicated high interest in UA.

We are like GAMomto4, we visited Honors and had ACT scores sent when she took it in Februrary. My D also applied first week application was online and her transcript was received on July 6.

^^ My D applied on the first day the application was available last year, had her ACT scores sent long before that and did an honors college visit junior year, so it can’t just be that. Whatever, she’s thrilled to be headed to Bama this weekend, with or without a postcard. I was just curious.

Who knows??? I am just thankful for the attention and recruitment from Alabama though. Here in New Orleans, we are surrounded by Tigers yet we haven’t received much communication from LSU!!

Looking forward to hearing reports from all incoming freshmen (via their parents) on their upcoming first year at Bama!!
