Oxford Scholars

I'm surprised no one made this thread before me.

Anyway, who got in and please post stats to help out next years applicants (I will post mine later)

and did you like the glittery stars in your envelope? lol

question: for scholars weekend, do we pay for our own airfare (that wouuld suck) or do they pay it?

I haven't seen hardly any Oxford applicants on this board, but I'm really curious as to what your stats were. I live near Oxford and have had quite a few counselors (HS and a Oxford one) recommend that I apply for Scholars there. I never sent in the app because of missing the deadline and was wondering if I would have made it.

yeah, people on this board are generally too good for oxford. oxford scholars is not difficult to get.
here's a brief version of my stats:
1580
rank 1
lots of EC's several really good ones
lots of leadership positions (pres of 2 clubs, one of which I founded, others...)
super recs
excellent essays

I was pretty much assuming I would get it, but it was still cool to get the letter

I don't see any reason not to apply to oxford. you can send one application with one application fee for both schools (emory college and oxford). all you need is an extra copy of recs/transcript

Haha, I loved the stars! But yeah, I'm in too.

Brief stats:
SAT: 1500/2150
ACT: 34
Rank: 12/450
Decent amount of EC's, very involved in two, leadership in one
Awesome recs
Good essays

I agree about your last statement - it's free, so why do so few apply? I think Oxford is a fine option for a way to get into Emory, and people with half-decent stats get a nice scholarship to go with it.

I guess I'll see you at Scholar's weekend, JohnC!

yeah... I had my laptop on my lap atthe time and all the stars fell into my keyboard... haha I still loved them tho

maea do you know if Emory pays for your airfare? I assume they do?

For Emory Scholars weekend, they pay for you to go down there as well as for you living expenses while there. I'm assuming it's the same for Oxford. =)

Agree with ^. I never looked it up because I'm only an hour away by car, but I'm sure if you called the school they would answer your question.

bump...can anyone else please tell me what to do about airfare.
this is URGENT
I have to fill out a registration form telling them my flight details. does that mean I buy my own ticket? do they just reimburse later? What time does the shuttle bus leave the airport for Oxford?

I got in, too. As I appear to be the incredibly rare person who would rather go to Oxford than Emory anyway, I'm quite pleased.

Briefly:
2370 SAT (800/770/800)
Decent essay
Very good recs
Good extracurriculars, including several state and national awards--few ECs but deep

If you want to see more detailed stuff, I put up a chances thread a while ago. shrug

JohnC613-

i sent off my registration form already but i vaguely remember seeing a time for when the shuttle leaves the airport for Oxford on the form (around where you list your arrival/departure times). i could definitely be wrong, sorry if i am!

ok, finally called and cleared things up.

first, emory college scholars program widely publicizes that they pay for all your expenses.
OXFORD, HOWEVER, DOES NOT PAY FOR YOU TRAVEL EXPENSES. they told me "they don't have the funds." that's sad. It's sad that the main campus is rolling in dough but they aren't willing to share it with Oxford. I mean, I hardly mind at all paying for the airfare, but it's still sort of embarrassing for Oxford

Second, if you have to take the 11:00 shuttle, you won't make it in time to sit in on classes. 11:00 is the only shuttle to Oxford. If you want to sit in on a class, you must drive to campus.

I forgot to ask how to find the shuttle once I've touched down in Atlanta. IMO they should give us a cell-phone number in case of emergencies. I'll ask about that another time and keep you all posted.

3 days left!!!

1 day left!

.. anybody know if we're supposed to show up in our nice interview clothes or are we supposed to change mid-day?

i'm just wearing nice clothes the whole weekend... nothing too nice... they said "business casual" so just some mediocre slacks and some semi-casual collared shirts
changing clothing mid-day just seems too much hassle

I'm planning on showing up in nice interview clothes and wearing them all weekend, personally. Too lazy to change midway.

haha...nice seeing you all at scholar weekend. ^^ It was so much fun. I wonder who you guys are ?

I was wondering the same thing all weekend. What groups were you lot in? Maybe we were in the same groups or something and didn't realize it.

Lessee--I was in the 11:45 Organic Chem class, which got shunted into Philosophy due to tests, and then I think I was in group discussion five. Aaand... group interview 3.

hmmm....i was in group discussion 2 and group interview 4 i think?
I had Dr. mcQuaid for my group discussion and Dr. Shapiro for my group interview.
My class visit was expository writing lame....not what i wanted at all. It was so boring. -_- Ms. Belle went over MLA style.....ugh.

I've already forgotten my numbers.. I just remember I was at dinner table 10..

I was in the philosophy class too [originally business calc, but they had a quiz]

let's see...11:45 orgo/philosophy class, group discussion first with tammy/dr pole/cool bio prof and then with dr cody/dr carter, and then group interview with dr shapiro/dr england
