does anyone have any or know of any experience with going to oxford for a semester? is it easy to travel to other countries or is it impossible due to the workload? what is the city/college life like? and is there a huge difference between associate status and visiting student status? thanks for all your help:)

My D is getting ready to leave for Oxford next week! She applied through the OSAP and will be at Christ Church College at Oxford next semester. I wish we had more details and information before she goes, but another student from her college went through the program last year and had a great experience…so we’re crossing our fingers all will be well (if her British visa ever gets here before her flight!)

S was at Oxford last year and did plenty of traveling. The workload is demanding, but remember, you are only taking 2 tutorials per term. Airfare to Europe is cheap (especially on Ryanair). There is also about a 6 week break between Hilary and Trinity terms (mid March-late April). Many international students use this time to travel. S and a buddy spent 4 weeks backpacking all over Europe. It was the trip of a lifetime.

As for college life…the city of Oxford is bustling and there is so much to do. I know S enjoyed the pub life. Within the university, the individual colleges become the focus of one’s social life. Formal dinners are very popular and well-attended. Be sure to bring dressy clothes. S’s tux got a lot of use!
