So how's the town? Do a lot of people head out for the weeked, any fun places near the school?

Current students want to weigh-in on this? My perspective of fun and serapheyes are probably pretty different.

;) i'm pretty easy to please. it there's a bookstore and coffee shop i'm happy as a clam...

In that case, you're set. There's Starbucks and Kofenya (I prefer Kofenya-- much better study environment), and Follett's has a decent sized bookstore in the back with plenty of general reading books. These are all an easy walk from campus. Oxford is a pretty small town, but you can definitely find things to do on campus as well... I also recommend the After Dark programs at Shriver on Friday nights.

oh thank you so much! i am totally satisfied now (actually i'm glad you said that because i don't like starbucks that much...)

not many people leave on the wkends...im comparison to what i've heard at other schools (bowling green, osu etc)... but a lot of people go to Bengals or Reds games (esp. in the Spring) and occassionally some concerts in Dayton or Cincy...

As for Oxford... the town is totally self-sufficient and thrives around the college... its THE IDEAL college town. I had someone visit me who has been really negative towards my decision to attend MU, and when he got there for the first time, his perspective totally changed. He was like "wow, i understand why you go here now, if i was going to make a movie about college, i would use this place"

Uptown has 2 bookstores (in addition to the student union), plenty of restaraunts, over 20 bars, tanning salons, a small movie theatre, and barber shops, and more...

Kroger and Walmart are both nearby and surrounding them are plenty other of establishments

IIs there anything to do in Oxford like culture wise, e.g. concerts, theater, art expos etc?? And can youa ctually go shopping in O-Town? How's the police towards under age drinking? Not that I'm drunk 24/7 but being from Germany I just have a real different attitude towards it. Thanks guys

yes, we get quite a few big name concerts a year for example this year:
Ben Folds, 3 6 Mafia, All American Rejects, Dave Brubeck (Jazz)

Additionally you'll get guest speakers such as:
Bill Cosby, Mikhail Gorbachev, Former Attny Gen- John Ashcroft, Rudy Giuliani

Not sure about the art... but Cincinnati is about 1/2 hour away and should have plenty

There are also MANY excellent plays and concerts put on year round by theatre, orchestras etc.

Shopping: Well, you aren't even going to find an Abercrombie or J. Crew at "J Crew U" (btw, i hate the stereotype--its not that true)...we've got the essentials: Groceries, Radioshack etc, bookstores, florists etc
If you have a car there are several malls about 1/2 hr-45 min away you can visit, and if not-- it isn't too hard to find someone to carpool with.

Being from Germany, I'm sure you have been exposed to a lot more alcohol and much more relaxed about it...but I doubt you'll have a problem with Oxford.
About half of the +20 bars (that's a ton for a college of any size) admit 18 yr olds...and you pretty much can still drink inside (of course when someone buys it)- if you're caught inside- they will just kick you out- you won't get in trouble unless you are causing trouble or resist.

As for the streets--- police can't arrest you unless you are on the sidewalk, the streets, or dorm (you are safe in houses and the lawn)...so just don't act absurdly drunk and don't be stupid and carry a beer down the street.

If you have anything else I can answer, post it here, or PM me...
i check back every once in a while

you're going to have a ton of fun next year

ew. walmart. :(

(lol)

you aren't gonna be able to go many places without one of those haha (wal-mart)

however, there is also a kroger and i think target soon

Bumping for good info on this thread...
