Oxy RD Discussion 2015

I got an interview with an Admissions Counselor. She’s one of the 3 who’ll be reading my application

Woo! Just 70 something days…
My interview went well, which is great. I really hope all of us CCers get into Oxy!!

Good luck to you! As optimistic as I usually am, I don’t think I’m getting in. My grades suck.

Thanks, good luck to you too! I bet your grades don’t suck. I hope you get in!!

Have any of you gotten confirmation emails from Oxy? I’ve gotten confirmation emails from all the colleges I applied to, save for Oxy!

Same!! It’s really bugging me. The website says they’ll email us when our applications are finished and not to call them…it’s just kind of making me anxious though!

I got an email saying they’d tell us all at the beginning of February with no penalty.

That’s weird…I didn’t get one…I think I’m going to email my application reader and ask her if they at least have my application in a file.

They sent it to me as a deadline reminder. I think I’m on their mail/email list like 20 billion times. You wouldn’t have gotten it if you’d sent in your application before 2 weeks ago.

Oh, ok. I sent in all my applications in late september/early October so I could focus on school, especially around finals. So that’s probably why.

Yeah, I’m a costumer so I can’t do that (it’s also why my grades are so low, no time). It totally sucked. Winter Break/the week it was due was the only week I didn’t have a show I had to build clothes for.

Oh that’s cool! I just did my apps every day during my lunch period instead of going to lunch or doing homework…I figured that towards the deadline, I wouldn’t have any motivation and my dance company would intensify our rehearsals.
66 DAYS!!!

I really like this thread…it’s refreshing to have people that do not have 36/2400/4.9999/valedictorian status and think they are better than everyone else, yet still bound to community college. :)

OMG I was JUST talking about that! Hahaha, I totally agree.

CC makes me feel so below average…yet I am so addicted. I am proud of my 31 and 2080. That’s kind of a huge reason why I love Oxy so much…it’s very unpretentious. I can’t wait to hear back.

I really hope I hear something from Oxy soon…at least acknowledging my application or something.
65! :)

YAY!! It’s like they just read my post…got the following email:

Dear Christina,

Greetings from Oxy!

We’ve received a record number of applications and are now downloading, checking, collating, and organizing over 30,000 credentials for applications. Each piece is very important to us, and to make sure they all get processed correctly and assembled into your file, we need a little time.

We ask that you please be patient while we get through all of our electronic and snail mail. We hope to be caught up soon - and once we are, we will get in touch via email to let you know what we have and what, if anything, we don’t have from your application file. We will also give you time to complete your file if an item is missing.

For now, relax, take a deep breath, and focus on your final semester!

Best wishes,
The Oxy Office of Admission

Yeah, I got that too.

Yeah! I’m proud of my ACT (30 comp, 31 if they take the best)! Honestly, I’m confident about all other aspects of my application except for my grades. I have a 3.16 which is decently below the average, but I’m hoping everything else will boost me up.

Where are you from?

Cool  I’m from The Chicago suburbs (I go to school in the city). How about you?

I hope it works out for both of us! The costuming thing you do sounds awesome. I dance (not obvious given the username) so I appreciate costume designers/makers…I can’t sew to save my life, but I love rhinestoning things. I’m weird.

Oh nice! My mom’s from Chicago. I live in LA in the San Fernando Valley. Basically, it’s 30 minutes away from Oxy and it’s kind of like a suburb-ish area considering how LA is constructed (instead of a city with suburbs, it’s a ton of these weird little clusters).

I hope it works out for both of us as well. Maybe I’ll get to costume you at some point :P.
And weird is totally great. I mean, I still watch Sailor Moon and listen to Disney music on a regular basis. I’m a weirdo…I love it.

i’m applying RD TOO! i hope we all get in. did you guys request for interviews?

Yeah, I’m pulling out the stops. Theatre Interview, Admissions Interview, Overnight Stay, Open House, Portfolio Review, etc. All that and I’m trying to pull the few strings that I happen to have. I’m THAT pathetically desperate to get in.
