p 217 autobio or commonapp essay? which is more important?

Which essay would admission officers focus on more? The autobiography one or the commonapp one? Cause I had a great idea for the autobio one that could also be used as the commonapp one. And considering the autobio one is optional, I don't know if I should use it for that or not.

Thanks!

id say that the whypenn is probably most important, then the commonapp, then the biography because it's "optional."

Anybody else agree?

Yeah I'm pretty sure the CommonApp essay is more important than the autobiography.

Optional can't be more important than mandatory.

why would the optional essay be more important than the main essay? lolz

Really don't think either one is more important than the other. The admissions officers are gonna read everything you have and use all the information they get about you. Just because one is techincally mandatory doesn't mean it is a better assessment of the applicant, and they're not gonna read the common app essay more than the optional. Plus, you can just switch the essays anyways so it doesnt matter which one you call the common app essay.

I agree with MisterA. The one that best represents you to them will wind up being the more important one. If you have an amazing pg217 and a so-so common app essay than your 217 will probably be "more important" in terms of your decision.
