Well, I'm just a wee little freshman who did not know what the **** I was doing first semester. I was completely lost, and in my moments of panic, I changed my chem 1a grading option from letter grade to p/np just because I did not want to make my gpa suffer if I so happened to fail. Well, I passed, and now I think I have to retake it... Which isn't a big deal. I just hope I can retake it at a community college or the web based one instead so I don't have to sit through another semester's worth of lectures...
Is there anyone out there that's taken a major prereq p/np, passed it with a p, and was able to go on without having to retake it?

There is no way to use a P/NP for a major pre req. Berkeley is extremely strict on this. You can try all you want but it’s not worth appealing to them.

However, one possibility is that, you could petition to have it changed back to a letter grade. This all depends on if you could figure out your grade by the amount of points you got in the course.

^Thanks for the reply. Since I have to retake it, now I’m just hoping I can get away with the web-based course instead.

Hmm. Well. Now, I think I’ll just change my intended mcb major to public health. I mean, to hell with chem 1a. I’m just gonna continue on my merry way through a different path.

Chem1a is a pre-req to a lot of classes, and those classes are pre-reqs to even more classes. Are you pre-med? If so, you have no choice but to retake it.
Not sure about the public health thing, though, just look into all the required classes.
