P/NP Grading Option?

Hi everyone!

I’m currently a junior English major at Cal. One of my literature classes is incredibly challenging, and a majority of the students are struggling. I want to go to law school, and my GPA is currently a 3.9. I’m trying to keep it pretty high for obvious reasons. I talked to my GSI and while getting a B in that class would be a serious achievement (can’t emphasize how hard it’s been), but I know the admissions don’t know that and thus don’t care. I can’t decide if it’s better to take the class P/NP to keep my GPA up, or take a B range grade. It’s an elective class for my major, but still within my major, so I don’t know how that will look. It would be the only P/NP class I end up taking if I choose to switch, but I’m just struggling! Please help! Thank you

Easy choice. Switch to pass/nonpass. Bs are not acceptable.

I can’t tell if this is sarcasm…

No, it is not sarcasm. Don’t get a B. It doesn’t matter what the class is. The law school will just see your grades calculated as an aggregate GPA.

the question is will the class count for your major if you only take it P/F?

Otherwise, I agree with HA. Don’t squander that 3.9 with a difficult class if you can help it. (Law schools are used to seeing P/F classes on a transcript. A few won’t matter.)
