I’m going to be taking 4 classes in the fall. 2 are STEM classes required fo my major while the other 2 are GEs. One of my GEs is an American studies class and it has a P/NP grading option. I’m considering taking the class under P/NP so it doesn’t affect my GPA and I can focus on doing good on my prerequisites, but how will the UCs and CSUs look at it?
They will not count as ‘transferable’ credit. They’ll see it on your transcript, but it won’t matter much one way or the other. If you don’t have enough units to fulfill your gen ed requirements and your major requirements, then taking them P/NP could be a major hindrance to your acceptance especially at schools like UCs and CSUs. They are really specific about what classes they want. If you are getting 60 transferable units, completing whatever major units you might need (or not if you’re not aiming for an AA/AS), completing the IGETC, and completing the major pre-recs for UCs (which can be found at assist.com), then taking the classes P/NP then it shouldn’t be a prob. but since that is not the case, I would not recommend it. Only one opinion.
Well, I’ll at be at CC for 2 more years, so I’ll have more than 60 transferable credits for sure. Are the UCs and CSUs really strict about one GE being graded as P/NP?
