Subjective:
Essays focused on my ambition to combine my passion in music with a career in business, and share that passion with my community.
Conselor recc. should be amazing she seems to love my drive, which is a huge factor in Wharton admissions.
Teacher reccomendations should also be good, they both know well as a person, rather than just as a student.
1. Taught me from 10th-12th grade (Trig Honors, Calc, AP Calc)
2. Only taught in 10th, but loves me. =)

Hooks/Anti-Hooks : Central PA, not going up against all the philly legacies
Strong Background in music, not all academics
School never sends to Ivy (is this a hook?)
Anti: everyone keeps telling me Im crazy, but I dont love my SAT score

Schools: Penn (Wharton) - #1 Choice, would have applied ED but was worried about $$$
Penn State (Schreyer Honors College) - great school, love blue band
Princeton - send me a viewbook, love their aid

-Plan on indicating major in Business with a double major or minor in music

Wharton - low reach / high match
Penn State - match / high safety
Princeton - reach (for, like, everyone!!!)

chance back!? good luck! amazing gpa!

Just looked up some UPenn Admissions info BTW:
SAT: 25th percentile - 2030, Average - 2115, 75th percentile - 2290

Princetons Average is 2205… possiby indicating music primary major interest there and exploring in business :P

This is link is a great tool for all you chancers out there! :stuck_out_tongue:

http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/profile/</a></p>

thanks for chancing! just curious – how does my club involvement seem scattered exactly!?
and not in NYC, close-by which i hope(?) will help/…???

idk haha i just kinda glanced at em and they seemed a little random :stuck_out_tongue: But I think theres probaly alot more to your theatre/french than meets the eye on a tiny college confidential chance thread lol.

I don’t know much about Wharton but I know Princeton places a pretty big emphasis on test scores. 2050 isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination but it can certainly be improved upon if you have the time. It’s shame that schools emphasize the SAT/ACT so much. Anyway, your passion for and continuity with music are great. If you teach private lessons, you can work that into a “I give back to my community” type thing, especially since you seem to be at an advanced level. You’re probably on the low end of Princeton but it’s definitely not impossible. I’d say high reach

Penn State - I’m not too familiar with it so dom’t weight my post too highly but I know a few kids in my school who already got in, and they’re not exactly brilliant (slightly above average test scores and one or two ECs they stuck with all through HS)

yeah i dont teach lessons…unless you count stoppin in and helpin out the jr. high clarinets in their rehearslas when I have a study hall lol. I think Im pretty much in main campus PSU… I really love the honors college though. They have seperate housing, first choce scheduling, and a renewable $3500 automatic scholarship. So if thats my back-up school im pretty happy :stuck_out_tongue: And yeah, the SAT is evil haha, hate it! I figure Im not gonna get into princeton, but you know its a reach for everyone, so why not take a shot.

Wharton- Reach
Penn State- Safety
Princeton- Reach (but as previous poster mentioned, reach for everyone!)

“School never sends to Ivy (is this a hook?)”
-Well, are you one of the few, if not the only, people applying to Princeton and Wharton? It’s always a good thing if not that many people apply from your school as opposed to many people, because it just makes it harder for you.

Then again, does this mean your school isn’t very competitive/rigorous?

Your GPA, rank, and ECs (specially the super-focus on music) are impressive and most certainly IVY level. The wisdom is “Depth, not Breadth”, but you kind of have both.

However, your SAT scores are not Ivy level, and that def. hurts you. However, it’s only one factor and you have a lot of things that could very well make up for it.

thanks! believe me… im the only one who would apply there…other than maybe our running back who is pretty smart…i think the football team sent him a letter last year but they arent hardcore recruiting him lol. And, no my school isnt very competitive, but I take advantage of all the opportunities availale to me at it (APs, Dual Enrollment etc.) I wish my SATs were like 150 points higher, Id feel ALOT more confident lol. Well, whats the worst that can happen? they say no? :stuck_out_tongue: thanks :)

I fully know how you feel–it’s crazy how many CCers are complaining about their 2200s and less than 700 subscores! I am sitting at a 2060, I’m thinking that if anything brings me down it’ll be my test scores. Your extracurriculars are looking pretty good though, especially when it comes to music. Would your college credits transfer to Penn State?

haha yeah i know im in that same trap lol. Im hoping they see how I can contribute to the musical/arts community at Penn and accept me but idk lol. The credits should definately transfer, about 4 years ago we had a kid go into PSU Schreyer technically as a sophmore. (easier to get football tickets!)

Pton-reach for everyone
Penn State-high match
Wharton-match

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816994-chances-will-return.html</a></p>

That’s cool that you’re interested in music and business though–possible future career? If I get in, hopefully my credits will transfer too but I don’t think they will since they were at a community college. What a waste of 100+ credits!

Okay your ECs and Stats are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! You have nothing to worry about. Make sure your essays are in tip-top shape and you will be fine :-). Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816473-chance-aa-female-elite-schools-updated-stats.html</a> <–Include Yale also!

my credits were at a community college too XP…but the nearest real university is like 45 minutes away so Im happy to make the 5 miunute ride downtown anyways =P They should transfer fine to PSU…convincing UPenn to take them would be a little trickier. And I really hope I can get a career in music business, that would be sooo cool!

hey man just read your reply on my thread- thanks for the advice! I’m applying to Schreyer’s honors college too! just finished the app the other day. If I don’t get into wharton or schreyer’s, I’m already getting a scholarship from pitt’s honors college and going there. If I miss wharton and get into schreyer’s then I’ll definitely be headed there. Keep in touch man good luck!

wow your ECs are realllyyyyy good… you got a good shot at upenn and no problem with penn st.

Wow great ECs! (Something I wish I had XD) like others said, SATs are a bit on the low end of the scale, but with a great essay I’m sure the odds will be in your favor for those reach schools! Penn state would be a deff. safety though.
