Pace BFA Film

Is Paces new BFA Film worth considering since it has no track record and know one specifically auditioned for it since it was only brought up at the other BFA auditions any thoughts ?

Haha, yeah, I’d like to know the same thing because I was accepted to it, but I’m not too sure what to think since it’s brand new, and there is no curriculum or anything to look at. I must admit though, it sounds pretty awesome.

Our D gained acceptance and is going to go. Here’s what we were thinking:

Pace has really gotten quite a bit of attention and popularity relatively recently as an undergraduate performing arts school. They’s always had great business programs, among others. The Actor’s Studio has also gotten very popular and is extremely competitive as has the undergraduate schools. They have a ton of momentum, are expanding rapidly and offer a top-notch faculty that continues to work at an extremely impressive level in the various performing arts fields. I know within the city, Pace perf arts graduates are very well-regarded in the business.

Internships have been a strong focus there and with this new BFA program, it would seem that it would be an especially target-rich program for internships. We’re hoping the program can take advantage of it’s location in this manner and it seems poised to do that.

Selfishly, when I heard of all the places our D was looking at, this one became MY front-runner because it seemed to give equal attention to actually working rather than just simply learning to act. There is that, too and a lot of it. But a combination. And that seems to me, like a perfect combination to be in.

Of course, I would never verbalize my thoughts regarding this because I would never want to sway her away from what she really wants - especially for what is ultimately something so economic in nature (actually earning money). “I mean, how un-artistic can you be, anyway, Dad!?”

But the way that Pace has really become so good in such a relatively quick time frame gave us confidence that they knew how to construct good programs and it took all the uncertainty out of the decision making from a “program” point of view. And if you’re ultimately interested in working in Film and TV, like our D, I couldn’t imagine a better program.

Just an opinion though.

Thanks for the imput

I think you need to have a leap of faith in the fact that Pace wants to be on the cutting edge of being a 4 yr BFA program in NYC that allows students to study the unique elements of acting for film. Pace has a great track record of introducing new programs. A university that shows its commitment to its Performing Arts majors by building a state of the art brand new building is reflective of the commitment of the university as a whole and the COPA in contrast to other universities which are cutting back on funding for PA.

Just realize you will not be studying the same curriculum of traditional theatre acting programs and realize what that means. If you don’t really know ( I don’t know) then call up and talk to them and find out what that means and if you can handle what will NOT be in the program that other programs will have.

Again, it is a leap of faith. Be honest with yourselves when making this decision. You don’t want to have buyers remorse.

Best of luck to both of you in this decision.

Where was the state of the art brand new building? I saw the building they renovated and it was very nice. I did not see a newly built facility when we toured Pace.

Oh I"m sorry, that is what I meant, the renovated building with state of the art facilities and equipment. I love those renovated old buildings honestly, there is so much architecture and detail.

@hdparker Did your D end up going to Pace for the BFA in film acting? If so, we would appreciate hearing how she likes it. My D is on the waiting list for this program. It sounds very interesting. Thanks!

@curiousmom- given that hdparker posted 2 years ago, and was not a frequent poster- I don’t think you are going to get a response - sorry

@toowonderful - you’re probably right. I should just start a new discussion. Thanks.
