Pace Commercial Dance Audition

Can anyone remember if the audition is every bit of 4 hours?

@Kimberking My D was at the November audition and it was a little less then the 4 hours including being called back to the interview portion-- but there were only about 25 auditioning that day and 5 kept for interviews.

So if a dancer is not asked to do an interview for Pace she can assume that she will not get into the program?

@Dberke I’ve heard it doesn’t matter and I’ve heard you’re a serious contender if you get an interview. So nobody on these boards has ever given an exact answer. PACE says it doesn’t matter, but I think it must. I know I’ve read they always interview all the boys no matter how good or bad. Anybody have thoughts on this audition?!! It was so unorganized and awful! For a program that gets such a good name, I was shocked!! As I think most of the parents of the 88 kids auditioning were as well. No welcome, no sign in, kids put in line on stairs for over an hour. My DD said 2 people taught all the classes in all styles and did all the judging (some students assisted). I’ve never heard of such a thing as most programs have several different instructors and definitely more than 2 judges who are teaching at the same time. Thoughts???

@Dberke My husband took my daughter last night and was also very surprised at the lack of organization. The 2 people who taught the classes were the Assistant directors of the program. They kept 12 for interviews, which seemed like a very large number based on what I have read and heard.

Agreed, My daughter was so disappointed in the whole audition. It was a complete mess. That was the largest group of dancers for an audition we have seen yet and the least organized.

@Dberke @Momontoes @West7202 Did your DD audition on campus or at a regional audition? My DS auditioned at a regional event and it he said he really enjoyed it. And I don’t think all boys get interviewed, he did but others didn’t, from what he told me. I wasn’t able to attend the audition so just going off of his account!

My daughter auditioned on campus. I’m just assuming she didn’t get accepted because she wasn’t asked for an interview. Onward and upward.

Interesting that people felt this weekend was disorganized-- we had a completely different experience at Pace when my D auditioned in November. There were only about 25 auditioning and we felt it was very organized.

I have heard regarding the interview and what it means that if you are asked to stay for an interview you are being seriously considered for admission- BUT you still could get accepted if not asked for one depending on how interviews go and the class they are trying to put together.

@gmfalv I remembered reading your experience, and similar others. So I was extremely surprised at how poorly this audition was run. We have now been to 8 auditions since November. This was by far the worst. And that’s not to say my DD wouldn’t be interested if she was accepted. It’s a great program. But they had us lined up on the street for an hour with absolutely no communication. Then a student brought us to the basement to ‘wait’ but no sign in or communication about what was going on. Then about an hour after it was supposed to start, another student said you guys can go upstairs. The parents didn’t know if that meant them too. The kids ended up standing on stairs for another hour with no communication. No parent session - which was fine with me because I’ve already been to the school and on a tour, but a little info on what was going on would’ve been nice with 88 kids and their parents in a small space. Then with the 2 people running all the classes and judging at the same time - most of our experiences had multiple teachers and judges. If I didn’t know the reputation of the program, I would have walked out and thought it was awful. Anyway we shall see how this progresses! I am ready for audition season to be done for sure

@Momontoes oh wow thats crazy! completely different experience then what we had in November. Is your D done auditioning at this point?

@gmfalv one more left! Yay!! How about you?

@Momontoes same here!! can’t wait for it to be over and know where my D will be going!

My daughter auditioned last year and hated the audition there. She was very frustrated with the process.

Anyone go to the audition this past weekend?

@gmfalv my DD did audition back in October for Pace CD and she was accepted into the program. Her top two were NYU Tisch and Pace

@momstress2020 How and when was your DD notified? Also was she asked to stay for an interview at the audition?

@dancemomHJ She received a call and it is uploaded to her portal. No she did not interview as she attended the intensive.

Do you have to be profecient in Tap to be considered? My D is strong in ballet, jazz, and hiphop. Only took a few tap classes at PPU intensive. She is a beginner tapper but advanced in other genres. She auditions this Friday, 1/28 in NYC.

How did audition go? My ds auditioned there. He said tap was okay. Wonder when results will be out…
