PACE Math Placement at Orientation?

Hey guys, just need some clarity on this. I’m headed to orientation on June 15th, and I got an email a few days ago saying everyone would take a math placement test. How exactly does this work for PACE freshmen? Am I supposed to do that ALEKS thing? I wasn’t planning on taking a math test because I assumed my ACT score would put me in college algebra, which is fine by me. I feel like I’m going into this blind.

Thanks to any who respond!

@SlimShadyLady I can’t answer your question, but I have some advise. Take your calculator to orientation! My daughter is a Liberal Arts major and wasn’t planning to take a math placement test at orientation. She was wrong! She scrambled to borrow a calculator at the last minute because she had to take the SAT Math placement test. She attended the first orientation (which ended today) and the test was on the first day.

From the email: If you’re not planning to take a calculus course but still need a math credit to complete your degree, you will have the opportunity to take the SAT Subject Test in Math (Level 1) on Day 1 of orientation. You do not need to register in advance for this exam and there is no fee if you take it during orientation. You need to bring your own graphing or scientific calculator for this test.

Based on this email and my daughter’s experience, I would think you will probably have to take the math placement test. Pack your calculator so you’re prepared. Good luck and hook 'em, Horns!

@FloMoMom that’s excellent advice. I didn’t even think about that. Guess I’ll have to pull my TI-84 out after all >.< thanks for mentioning that, I would have been screwed

Hey! I actually just came back from orientation for PACE haha. Yes, you’re gonna need to bring a calculator. You’re gonna be taking the SAT Math subject test 1 I believe it was called? It’s just to see if you can test out of precal or any other higher maths.

@lilyisaninja ahh okay :frowning: thank you for the confirmation. definitely not looking forward to that, haha. Was orientation okay otherwise? I’m getting kind of nervous about registering for classes and stuff
