My daughter was just accepted to Pace MT (she was an alternate). Her other option is Roosevelt MT (voice). The financials are the same, and we already know the differences in curriculum. How good is the training at Pace? Nothing like a last minute decision to throw everything out of wack! Thank you!
Hi @gapyearguru - I’m just another mom, no ties in the industry but I would choose Pace hands-down. We loved what we saw there when we visited, it’s very competitive to get in and proximity to NYC adds a bonus. Other folks might feel differently but I’d say she will be very happy at Pace.
My son is a freshman MT at CCPA Roosevelt. He loves the program! It is very competitive to get in 600-700 auditioned for 50 spots (25 MT, 25 MT Dance). The training is top notch by professionals working in Chicago and NYC. The head of MT Dan Cooney is an exceptional artist with NYC ties. The curriculum is well rounded but a bit more heavy on the Acting. My son chose CCPA over 7 other programs. He was really wowed by the classes offered and was excited to take stage combat which some of the other schools don’t offer. Chicago itself is an amazing city. So much to do and many outside opportunities available to the students. My son has been in two films and a video shoot this year. The freshman have two showcase opportunities and they run crew for the Mainstage shows. Living in the city is also helping to prepare him for an eventual move to NYC. Chicago is more low key with less distractions for my son and it’s easier to find work there without being equity. Many students have a much easier time getting equity points in Chicago and then moving to NYC. If you have any additional questions please send me a PM. Best wishes to you as you make a decision:)
We have a friend at CCPA and unfortunately has had an opposite experience than theatremom10. She really didn’t like the MT program there at all, so she switched to Acting and has been happier- but overall doesn’t love it. She didn’t want to bother with transferring, and will be graduating soon, but hasn’t been the best experience for her. We also have another friend at Pace who didn’t love it at first, but does now. And We also know people who love Pace and are thrilled to be there- and those who dislike it. You really have to look at the best fit for your student. The training at both is great, I wouldn’t worry about that. I would just look at personal fit.
I am super-curious about the negative experiences that @stagedoormama has heard via friends. If you have any details to share pertaining to what specific aspects of the program these unhappy students would reference that would be helpful for me to file mentally for next year as both of these schools are on my daughter’s list and Pace is in her top 3 spots after having done their summer program as a sophomore last year. Thanks in advance!
@Gapyearguru one of my sons graduated from Pace MT so I’m admittedly biased. Feel free to message me with specific questions if you still need help.
@MTTwinsinCA2 thanks! My daughter committed to Pace on Monday
Congrats! Welcome to the #PaceFam!
Hi @gapyearguru I don’t know how to DM but I would love to discuss current info on Pace auditions. My daughter’s first choice is Pace, she’ll hopefully audition next year. Thanks!
