Pace - MT

Does anyone have any information on Pace?

Thank you

Here is some basic information I have gathered but I suggest you then visit their website and call to get more information and not rely on this site unless someone here has first hand information from attending (though I haven't met anyone yet on this site who attends or has a child attending)...

Pace University: NYC, 8700 undergrads, rolling admissions, BFA in Theater with a Music Theater Concentration, min. GPA required of 2.0, Avg GPA 3.2, accepts 70%, 19% from top 10% of class, 47% from top 25% of class, 86% from top 50% of class, mid SATs V480-580, M500-590, combined 980-1170. Senior Showcase. An option that is easier to get into both academically and artistically.

Hope this is a start,
Susan

I don't know if this has changed, but we looked at this last year. I know they were trying to get a BFA in MT going, but it hadn't happened at that time. As of last year, the dance classes and voice classes were not housed at Pace. You had to take the subway, etc. to get to these classes. I believe the dance classes were through Broadway Dance Center. I don't recall what they told us about the voice. It just didn't seem put together enough at that time.

I know someone who is "involved" in the program. I will try to get her to post here for true accurate information.

What I do KNOW is that this woman is a phenomenal instructor. Also, their program is brand new and they allow freshmen to audition. My D, who does NOT want to go to school in NYC [loves to be in NYC but wants a "campus" setting for college] was so impressed after working with this woman that she keeps coming back to Pace for consideration.

Stand by for more, I'll see what I can do to get her to post.

This is kind of an interesting tidbit...

This is Amy Rogers and I run the musical theatre program at Pace University. I would love to clear up some of the confusion regarding the BFA in Musical Theatre. Yes, the BFA is not official as of yet. The proposal is sitting in the hands of the State and we should have it in place within a few months. A musical theatre program in New York City has many pros and cons - one of which is that we are limited in space. Yes, we have classes off the campus where students have to take the Subway. This applies to the voice lessons and to the dance classes, which are taught at Broadway Dance Center. The reasons that students decide to come here however, is that the training is far superior to many of the other colleges. We are new, and young and the teachers are some of the most well respected in the field. I only accept 20 students per year, which allows me to give each student the attention and help to create a unique and exciting musical theatre performer. The most important thing however, is to help to develop a holistic human being who is professional and realistic about their career. Since I got to Pace I have has students who have gotten lead roles in the National Tour of Cats and Rent. I had 10 students at 7 different Summer Stocks. I have had students work on Passion at Lincoln Center and they will be involved in The New York Musical Theatre Festival. We are small, but strong and mighty program. Please contact me at Arogers2@pace.edu should you have any further questions.

Bumping up for those that are interested in Pace.

Bumping. I know this thread is old, but I’m very interested in getting into the pace musical theatre program. If you don’t get into the bfa mt or ba theatre arts program, is it still possible to attend pace as undecided? How is the program and how difficult is it to get in? I’d really appreciate responses from anyone who knows anything about this! Thanks so much.

My D is a freshman BFA in MT at Pace. There are 22 or 23 in the freshman BFA/MT program. They do offer a BA in Theatre Arts and a BFA in Acting. There are students at Pace this year who auditioned for the BFA and/or BA and didn’t get accepted into those programs but decided to come to Pace undecided and reaudition or major in something else. Be sure to check out the Performing Arts website at pace.edu for current info. This program is pretty amazing!

It isn’t a conservatory right? Do they have a technical theater or stage management major?

Hi bookjb,

A lot of the information here is quite old, so I would direct you to our website: [Performing Arts | Dyson College of Arts and Sciences | Pace University](Sands College of Performing Arts | Pace University New York). We do have programs in Production & Design and a planned BA Stage Management program for Fall 2013, pending NYS approval.

My D auditioned Sunday and was asked to perform her monologue! She feels she had a great audition. When are results coming out? This is her first choice

Did you audition on campus? Did they not have time to listen to monologues? And your D got to do one? Just curious. I know at Unifieds they went real fast with everyone and did not let them do monologues and cut their songs to 16bars- It was a bummer for everyone

Powermom- also meant to say best of luck to your D!

We auditioned on campus and it was rushed. We found out only 2 kids were asked to read their monologues which I hope is a great sign. Their songs were also cut to 16 bars

i do think that is a great sign!

I am guessing that the Musical Theatre major is not rolling though, correct?

No, it is not
