Pace or Brown MFA for Acting Questions

So I was wondering if there was anyone out there that could help me with these two schools. These are the last two on my list that I’m not sure about and after researching them and calling them, I’m still not sure. I think what I’m not sure about is that they both have directing and playwright students in the acting classes and they both seem to cross-train so to speak all their students. Has anyone that knows about these two programs describe what the classes are like or are structured? Pace says their classes are a combination of conservatory and regular class, but that just confused me more lol.

I get the feeling that these two schools don’t get deep into the acting but rather just teach you technically what to do along with getting you familiar with directing and writing plays. Would you agree? I think Brown is more centered on honing your creativity. So I guess really what I want to know is, are these schools structured for their students to grow as an actor, much like the training you would get in a conservatory?

So I was able to talk to Brown today which was a little surprising since I’ve had trouble getting in touch with other schools. So I think I found my answers and thought I would share in case it helps someone else.

It was explained to me that the program is a conservatory style and that they don’t teach a specific style or method. You basically already know how to act and have you’re own way of getting into character. You are in class with the director and playwright students and you act like a company, working together throughout the 3 year program. You have the opportunity to act in shows all the time, so you are constantly busy.

Thank you for sharing. We don’t talk much about MFA programs here, but I expect my son will be on the learning curve about this process in a few years.
