I recently got invited to participate in the PACE program. I have a few questions because I do want to accept and take this path. Some info from me is that I graduated from high school a semester early and I am enrolled at ACC currently and taking 4 classes. I know that these credits do not count towards the PACE program. I know I need 12 hours at ACC and 3 hours at UT each semester. My questions…
- In the PACE agreement it states that I cannot take any courses over the summer before I enroll in the fall at any institution. I was planning on taking 2 classes at ACC over the summer of 2019, and I don’t expect it to count towards PACE. Am I not allowed to take classes over the summer at ACC? Even if I don’t count it towards PACE? I just wanted to get as many hours as possible as early as possible.
- I know I need to apply for the major I wanted (Psychology Bachelors of Science), but when do I apply for this major? Also, how hard is it to get into this major overall as well as through PACE?
- Will my past AP scores still count towards my major (if I get accepted for BS Psychology)?
Thank you to anyone who can try to answer these questions or give any feedback on the PACE program. I’m very excited because I thought PACE was only offered to the top 10% of high school classes and my original plan was to go to ACC and transfer to UT Austin.
I also forgot to ask if I can minor in something that is outside of the colleges included in PACE, or if I have to stick to majors and minors in COLA.
Hey! I also got into PACE and i’ve been talking to some current students at UT who did the program, based on what I was told, here’s what I know:
-
Sure, I believe you’re free to take any classes you want. Just know for sure that none of it will count towards the credits you need for PACE, I took some classes myself an was told that through PACE you either take the higher up of one you already did or just register for a different class. It’s going to take the WHOLE YEAR to fulfill the requirments, you CANNOT finish early at all

I know the PACE program says they offer majors in COLA, the education school, school of social work, and moody college of communication. However, I know a student who did PACE and is now a marketing major at Mccombs. I think as long as you keep a high gpa and talk to your adviser about how to get on track to the path you want, you’ll be fine.

I’m not sure about AP classes…
I recently emailed someone to help with some PACE questions and I will share them on here for anyone that may be wondering…
-
I was told that PACE students are not permitted to take courses over the summer before they begin because it reduces the options to meet program requirements.
-
We will request our major in March of 2020 through a customized link
3)“Advisors will work with us during our individualized advising at summer orientation to assess our AP credit and how/where/when to claim it”
-
You can submit a written request to takes courses at a different location, and then administrators will give a response. I was told to write an email to the lady I am emailing and she will send it to the administrators for me.

For questions about housing options and requirements you can contact New Student Services at (512)-471-3304 or nss@austin.utexas.edu (I don’t want to sleep in the dorm because I’d rather just drive home and sleep in my own bed, but I guess I can just leave and hope I don’t get in trouble for it? I’m 18)
If anyone has any more PACE questions you can email Jasmine at jrschmitt@austin.utexas.edu and she will answer! (Feel free to post any info you get on this thread too)
