@UFOnline Thanks!
I am still confused on the transient student idea to work on credits towards the 60 needed for PaCE. I looked at UCF and FSU sites for transient student info. Both schools allow it but you can only be a transient student at UCF one semester and FSU two (but the semesters cannot be sequential). I have not looked at the definition of transient student yet at other schools or Community Colleges. None the less, a transient student would not be part of the “host” campus (no dorms and no real part of the host school) so if the thinking is that being a transient student would be a way to have a college experience while working on credits to move to UF is not true.
@surfer4 In general, most students have been looking at the “transient” student issue at the College and not University level. At UF, we also have rules in place that limit how students from other Universities/Colleges can take UF courses as a transient student. In addition, speaking from a UF perspective, many of our “transient” students are taking online courses for credit and therefore do not need dorms or access to other facilities.
Great info here on this board. Great insight to this evolving program. I believe UF’s Pace offering and the UF Online degrees are only going to be the tip of the iceberg as traditional Brick/Mortar learning evolve with technology. The State/Board of Regents kicked in 15 Million dollars to kickstart UF online and there are other large Universities (Penn St., Arizona St.) with large student populations doing this also. For us next year if it comes to this it will be a hard choice but it’s definitely an option. For anyone who thinks being offered this is an “injustice” - well, I don’t consider being offered a chance to attend a University any sort of injustice to anyone. That’s like saying the burgers they sell at McDonalds are an injustice. They might be bad, you might not like your choices so don’t eat them! I think the biggest downside I see to all of this is the limited # of majors in both PACE and UF online, that being said I know these will grow and change each year also. This is a good read for some more insight on the entire UF Online plan.

@UFonline: I read a recent post here where someone mentioned a PACE student would be able to try out for UF Cheerleading and that the coach said it was okay. I checked with admissions and they say that is not the case, again because PACE students are not paying a certain fee. Can you clarify this? Also, I’m sure anyone who’s child is signing up for PACE would be willing to pay full tuition or at least this extra fee so their child can have a chance to fully participate.
@floridamom61 Yep, I saw that about UF Cheerleading. UF Online students do not pay the activities fee so they cannot join the gym or play sports. However, there is an optional membership that UF Online students can purchase. See: http://www.recsports.ufl.edu/about/membership-services/students/ that will allow them to join the rec center and do some sports teams.
I would suggest that you contact the activity that you are interested in directly to see if the membership at the site above will allow you to do that activity.
PaCE session going on now (3 pm March 3rd). See: https://www.advising.ufl.edu/pace-pathways-to-campus-enrollment/
Chance to talk directly to advisors in a number of Colleges offering PaCE majors.
We sent an email to Cortnee Alexander who responded that PaCE students could tryout and become cheerleaders. This was early on. You may want to contact her again to see if the info has been revised.
@Dad12356 I heard the same about the dance team. However, if you ask Admissions for confirmation of this you will get a different answer depending on who you ask.
Has anyone accepted PACE and if so are you going to live in Gainesville?
My daughter will be… University Housing on 13th St.
@UFOnline I was wondering, as a UF PacE student, can we study abroad on an exchange for a semester through UF’s study abroad program like a normal student would?
My son will be living in a new apartment complex called Social 28.
@mgcsoccer97 Yes, UF Online students can participate in study abroad.
@UFOnline okay, thanks!
@UFOnline: In some posts several weeks ago regarding what is or is not available to PACE students, can you tell me if there is any discussion regarding giving those choosing to live in Gainesville an option to pay the Activities & Services Fee tuition differential (not just the rec center fee) so they can access and participate in the same as a residential student? This could be optional as not everyone may need or want all the services, but I’m sure there are a group that would love to have it.
@floridamom61 For UF Online students we are not allowed, by state law, to charge an Activities and Services Fee. The Rec center is classified as an optional “membership”, which is how we can offer that. Sorry.
If UF doesn’t recommend Pre-Med Majors to be in the PaCE program, why would UF have offered it to my daughter (and apparently many others)
Where will we be able to see the numbers of students who accept the program? I was informed by admissions over 30,000 applied for Freshman Summer and Fall 2015 and approx 20,000 were rejected, 7,000 accepted to UF traditional and 3,000 to PaCE.
We feel this is a big dis-service to academic students who have wanted to attend UF for years only to find out they only can if they miss their Freshman experience. Rather than being excited my daughter got “in” UF, I am disappointed she won’t be considering it.
@lors11 Consider PaCE as a last-ditch option one can do to attend UF. Without PaCE, your daughter would have be outright rejected.
Its a trade-off: a freshman experience vs. a potentially (depends on major) very good education.
The choice is simple: you were rejected but you have an alterative option. Don’t like it? Don’t do it.
