PaCE program?

@lors11 Thanks for your note and I do understand the frustration and confusion. As I think everyone is aware, it is a new program. I would love to share with you the numbers of students who will accept the offer but we have no idea how many will accept. (The deadline is the same deadline as residential students have for accepting an offer from UF).

The data we have, and that has also been shown nationally, is the majority of students will change their major. You are right that your daughter as a Pre-Med track student (there is no pre-med major at UF) is not a great fit for PaCE. If that is what she would like to do, other options may be better. We made residential offers to a similar number of students as we have in the past. PaCE offers were made to students who we believe have the potential to be outstanding students but who we not in the residential offer pool.

This article discusses the admissions numbers, and it sounds like PaCE offers were in addition to the normal number of admitted students.

@coral9 Living in Windsor Hall!

Hi All. FAQ have been updated for the UF PaCE Program. Please see:

http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/pace/faq.html

They include this update:

Can I apply to professional school programs (medical, dental and vet schools) as a PaCE student?

Currently, not all health-related professional schools accept online undergraduate courses. As a result we suggest, in coordination with your advisor, that PaCE students interested in health-related professional schools take all prerequisite courses as a residential student.

Most majors availble to PaCE students could provide a pathway to medical, dental or veterinary school. However, health-related professional schools recommend taking critical tracking courses face-to-face at the university level. Therefore, we recommend taking them residentially at a state university (e.g., University of Central Florida, Florida International University, or other state university) rather than at a state college (Broward College, Santa Fe College, or other state college). If you take your critical-tracking courses at a state university (other than the University of Florida) your pathway to campus admission is:

  1. Accept admission to UF through PaCE.
  2. Plan on taking the pre-health prerequisite courses such as biology, chemistry, and possibly others face-to-face (not as an online course) as a transient student at a Florida state university (e.g., take courses at the University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, or other state university). Talk to your academic advisor about which courses should be taken face-to-face rather than online.
  3. Complete the rest of the PaCE requirements.

An article on the program was just published in the Washington Post.

My son appealed his placement in Pace and requested a spot in the residential freshman class (he will be pre-med).
Despite having straight “A’s” in all his Fall IB classes, improving his SAT scores and participating in many community service projects, he was given the thumbs down. “No room at the Inn” was basically what Admissions told him. I am just curious if anyone else received a different response and was able to change programs.

How many students do you think will accept the PaCE program?

My son was given the same response. Has your son found an apartment?

Does anyone have any recommendations for apartments that offer activities similar to that of a dorm? For boys. I know there is one for girls. Thanks

@Gatorgirl85 your best bet would be the Windsor Hall Co-ed building. It’s a dorm geared towards freshmen, but it’s just not associated with UF so PaCE students can live there. It’s privately owned by a local company in town, who also manages apartments and the Ivy House dorm. I would double check availability on the website. http://www.trimarkproperties.com/dorms-near-uf/windsor-hall-housing/index.php

Thanks so much GatorGrlK!! It looks great!!!

Hi! I was wondering your sons stats? Or anyones that got into the Pace program? Thanks.

Hi I am currently in computer science pace program offered through college of liberal arts and sciences. I would like to do computer science from the engineering college since it requires less gen eds and more technical electives. Is it possible to change or transfer?

This is a question best addressed in consultation with your academic advisor. You can find the relevant contact information at https://handbook.ufonline.ufl.edu/advising/pace-advisors-contacts/. Please reach out to your advisor as s/he will need to review your specific course work. If you are uncertain about whom to contact, please send an email to pace@ufonline.ufl.edu.

When i do transfer from UF can I switch majors, out of the one i choose for PaCE to a UF residential major?

@UFPaCEStudent I believe the answer is yes, but you’re not an auto admit. You have to apply as if you’re a transfer student. Check with your PaCE adviser.

PaCE is intended and best suited for students who wish to pursue one of the available PaCE majors. We recommend the program only for students who wish to pursue the majors on the list, as those are the only ones we can guarantee. If you would like a non-PaCE major, and wish to graduate from UF, you might have better success getting your AA at a state college and applying to UF as a transfer. That way you won’t have the degree program restriction to deal with.
