PaCE program?

Yet another question: is there any route that i could take to reach vet school within the pace program.

@UFOnline‌

If I pursue “Microbiology” with the PaCE program. How can I take classes that include Labs? Would I have to take those as Transient Student? (FIU is close by)

Thanks for your time

@mlsilvers try calling admissions. I called and they will tell you all about it. When I asked about sororities and fraternities, the guy told me that it all depended on the sorority/fraternity and which rules they have regarding paCE students. He suggested contacting them to find out about it since joining the houses depends on them.

@mlsilvers @rorochi‌

In order to join or be an active member in a social fraternity or sorority, a student must be enrolled at the University of Florida, which you will be in PaCE. Social fraternities and sororities have chapters at the University of Florida, but are national organizations with many different eligibility policies of their own. Examples of these eligibility requirements may include a minimum grade point average and/or a minimum number of enrolled credit hours in order to join or remain active in that particular organization.

Knowing the eligibility requirements for each fraternity or sorority is the responsibility of the student seeking membership. Additionally, to reside in an approved social fraternity or sorority chapter facility (or house), one must be an enrolled, degree-seeking University of Florida student who is an active member of the respective chapter. We encourage our students to inquire about a chapter’s membership requirements and its policies on remaining an active member. UF defines enrolled as registered for at least one credit hour for the semester in question.

@biofresman97 We have labs in UF Online courses. Different course do these differently. Some are all online while others require you to do experiments (in your apt/house), while at least one course will offer the option of coming to campus to take a lab (the law allows UF Online courses to have labs on campus).

To all students/parents interested in Pre-vet, Pre-Med and Pre-dent in PaCE. I HIGHLY recommend that you send a note to CLASPaCE@advising.ufl.edu

The College of Liberal Arts and Science at UF is in charge of ALL pre-health advising for the campus, no matter what your major is (there is no Pre-Med, for example major at UF. You have to pick a major and then track in Pre-med).

@UFOnline My friend and I were put into the paCE program and we decided to make a Facebook page for it:

Here it is:

Search
“Pace class of 2019 at the University of Florida” on Facebook

I’m strongly considering this program and if there’s anyone else out there who is also considering it it would be cool if you joined the group so that we can all find out more about it and maybe get to know each other so that we’re not secluded from everyone else and maybe know people when we transition into campus later on!

Join the new fb page so students can get to know each other!:slight_smile:

@nsn2015 You are guaranteed to get into the PaCE major you selected as long as you track correctly (GPA and have the right courses). The College of Liberal Arts and Science (CLAS) PaCE site states clearly which courses/GPA you would need. Other colleges will be getting their info up soon!

Will students accepted in PaCE who are interested in Pre-vet, Pre-Med and Pre-dental be able to study on campus the “traditional” way starting Summer B / Fall 2015?

Congratulations to all the students who were accepted to the new PaCE program at the University of Florida!

For those of you inquiring about housing, the Windsor Hall Luxury Dorm might be the best fit. It’s a private luxury residence hall located 2 blocks behind Norman Hall and 1 block from the University of Florida’s Sorority Row. Like the traditional residence halls, Windsor Hall offers all-inclusive, fully furnished dorm suites (Singles, Doubles, and Triples) walking distance UF libraries, dining halls, and extracurricular activities. It’s a social dorm where you can meet other students and go through freshmen year surrounded by students who are attending UF’s programs (standard UF students who are taking on-campus classes, Innovation Academy, PaCE, etc). Windsor Hall was ~80% freshmen last year, with some upperclassmen and a grad students, too (but mostly freshmen). Since Windsor Hall is a private dorm (not owned by the University of Florida), PaCE students are eligible to live there. PaCE students living at Windsor would be around other UF students in a social dorm environment, thereby getting more of the “standard” college experience that many of you are inquiring about.

I work at Windsor Hall and graduated from UF. You can see more details about the Windsor Hall Luxury Residence Hall here: http://www.trimarkproperties.com/dorms-near-uf/windsor-hall-housing/index.php

The discussion on here reminds me of the discussion that happened when Innovation Academy was started a few years ago. In the beginning, a lot of students and parents were uncomfortable because Innovation Academy was new, and they had a lot of questions about whether they were going to get the ‘true’ college experience if they did Innovation Academy. The people who I know who did IA but came to Gainesville in the fall with their classmates seemed to have a completely normal college experience. It sounds like PaCE could offer a similar experience for students that come to Gainesville.

Also, for students asking about majors, I was a marketing major. During my first two years, classes were the same for marketing as the general business school. Lots of people switch within business majors as they get closer to graduation. And a lot of the classes in the business school are online anyways. I graduated from UF last year, and I had a semester where all of the classes that I needed were online classes. PaCE didn’t exist back then (I was a standard UF student), and I was in a sorority, attending football games, getting involved on campus. I’m just saying that LOTS of students who go to UF have semesters where their classes are all online. In my situation, I chose to have the semester where I had all my classes online—it gave me more time for balancing my extracurriculars (I was chairman for a committee in my sorority, which is a leadership position), and I was active in clubs, and I had an internship. I’m not affiliated with UF, but just saying as a former student— UF is a great school, and it sounds like you could still have the ‘normal’ freshman experience if you come to Gainesville and just ‘transition’ after 60 credit hours. Plentry of ‘regular’ UF students have semesters where they take all of their classes online. You don’t have to have classes ‘on campus’ to have the collegiate experience.

Go Gators!

@2400FEVER Not sure what you mean by “traditional way”. PaCE students will not be UF students until fall 2015. There is no summer B enrollment. All PaCE students have full use of the libraries on campus.

Any PaCE student interested in Pre-Vet, Pre-Med and Pre-Dental (or any pre-Health field) should contact CLASPaCE@advising.ufl.edu

There will be chat sessions for UF PACE majors in most programs. Please see: https://www.advising.ufl.edu/pace-pathways-to-campus-enrollment/ for details.

The first session is Friday February 20th and will have representatives from the Colleges of Agriculture, Business, Journalism, and Arts and Sciences.

@UFOnline‌ Is the College of Design, Construction and Planning having Chat sessions? I don’t see them listed on your link.

@tawkmw Not currently. Hopefully will add them to the chats in the near future.

@ufonline Is Mr. Andrew Wehle the best person to contact with PaCE questions for College of DCP?

@UFOnline Can students in PaCE be able to change to the traditional campus program starting summer 2015 if they want to major in a preprofessional career such as biology?

@UFOnline What would be the policy with IB students. Is there a minimum of 2 semesters, or is it how ever long it takes to gain the necessary amount of credits?

Would Pace Students have access to Student Health Services?

I wanted to accept my offer for the PaCE program but my preferred major was not listed, I want to pursue Graphic Design, is there a way to still do the PaCE program and maybe pursue my preferred major once I’m on campus? I saw on the PaCE FAQ page that if we wanted to pursue a major not offered under PaCE that we had to apply as a upper-division transfer, does that mean I have to re-apply all over again and then lose my guaranteed spot under PaCE? I saw Digital Arts & Sciences as one of the offered majors in PaCE but is that the same as Graphic Design?

@jonmakam22 You will need 60 credits before transitioning to campus and at least two semesters in UF Online.
