For those who have chosen to attend Pace University or are looking into the school, I highly recommend checking out the instagram account “@seeourtruths” that I came across.
There is clearly deep-rooted systemic problems with program head Amy Rogers and assistant JV Mercanti. I wonder how these instances of problematic leaders, faculty, and guest artists will affect future enrollment now that these issues are public.
I stand with the students hurt by the program at Pace and every MT program troubled by systemic problems. The Instagram account is extremely well produced and clearly lays out experiences and problems at the school.
Unbelievable and I am reading similar things about NYU
I have been so surprised to see how little discussion there has been about this movement at Pace. On the Facebook groups and here, I have heard current parents state that the “issues at Pace have been addressed by admin,” but if you watch the Instagram posts that is just not true. It is not even clear if the professors involved have been removed (they remain on the website) and the Pace administration seems to be blocking this group at every turn. I am sure that these problems are common at many schools and we know they are rampant within the industry, but one can’t help but be so saddened and shocked by See our Truths videos.
This should impact college choice particularly for BIPOC.
I spent a good part of the weekend watching this. Anyone considering Pace Performing Arts (any degree) really needs to watch it, regardless of the color of your skin. White kids were also affected by the fallout of the complaints. If you can’t get through the whole thing, watch both parts of Episode 5 and the Movement Reports. There is zero suggestion that the issue is fixed.
As to why people are not talking about it here? They do not want to get black listed by programs for being instigators. It’s not just Pace. Other programs don’t want kids who are going to cause problems either. We all know there are 5 perfectly acceptable clones of each of our kids who a school could choose to take instead. Its not worth taking a chance on behalf of your child to speak up publicly.
