Has anyone been to Pace summer scholars for MT or Theatre Arts that can tell me more about the program? Also I am having trouble with the essay…
Hi marysike. The few posts I’ve seen have all been positive. My D is a rising junior and completed her application the beginning of march, but her application status is “under review.” She did a standard 2-page essay with 3 body paragraphs, but she didn’t complete the scholarship essay. She approached it like a school assignment, putting quite a bit of work into it. I have no idea what kind of weight they put on the essay, or any other part of the audition, for that matter. D attended The University of Illinois, (ISYM) Illinois Summer Youth Music’s 1-week musical theatre program last year, and absolutely LOVED it! All the college instructors were talented and encouraging, and many of the 30 kids still keep in contact today. Have you auditioned for Pace yet, and if so, have you heard anything yet?
Hello! I might be a little late to help you out, but I attended the Pace Summer Scholars in 2013 for Musical Theatre. It was one of the most worthwhile experiences I’ve ever had as a performer. Simply to be in NYC studying theatre is such a privilege in itself, but they also take such good care of you. It’s equal parts dance training, vocal training, acting training, and audition prep. It’s exhausting but really prepared me for my college auditions that next year. I’m very thankful I was able to be a part of it. Unfortunately, it does not give you a leg-up on the auditions your senior year, as out of the 20 scholars from my year, only 1 person got into the MT program. However, the preparations they gave me put me at the top of lots of others’ school’s lists. It’s incredibly worthwhile.
