I’m considering accepting my PACE offer while I wait to hear back from the waitlist. From what I understand from talking to current PACE students, PACE (and CAP) are both really geared towards getting you into the liberal arts college. However, I have my heart set on business. Does anyone know how many people from PACE get into McCombs? I haven’t been able to find any information on this anywhere, and it would really help me make my decision. Thank you!
I have not seen anything with stats on PACE. It is only in its third year I think?
There is a page on the UT website that has all kinds of great data. I have not seen what you are looking for on the CAP program which makes me wonder if they will ever have that detail for PACE.

I would think if you follow the guidelines for McCombs internal transfer you’d be in pretty good shape because that is pretty similar to what you are doing.
Thanks for your response!
By the way to anyone else wondering, I messaged someone who did PACE for Fall 2014 (I think) and this is what she said:
“Hi I was accepted into McCombs after I finished my year of the PACE program. A ton of my friends in PACE actually got into McCombs! We were all really worried but we all had a 4.0 at ACC or like one b which I’m not sure what gpa that is haha. In the end it was worth it because I got into McCombs, but it was annoying going to ACC everyday. However, the classes are much easier except the grades don’t even factor into your gpa so it’s kind of annoying but you still get credit for all the classes.”
This makes me feel a lot better about being able to transfer to McCombs after PACE. Although I know that McCombs is just getting more competitive every year, so I don’t know if this will still be the case by the time I transfer.
@baconwaffle when you say the grades dont factor in… do you mean to your final UT GPA or to the GPA that will be put on transfer application forms?
I’m not exactly sure what the girl I messaged meant about that. I think she’s saying that all of your credits from the ACC classes will transfer, but not the GPA. So like you’d be starting from scratch for your GPA at UT. But I mean that’s just my interpretation of it
That seems to be in accordance with everything I have heard. It is my understanding that ACC is not difficult but if something did happen and I didn’t get a 4.0 I feel like I would be S*** out of luck. My other concern is that there will be so many people who are trying to do this (PACE --> McCombs). Part of me feels like the university limits the number of “First Choice Major = McCombs students” to PACE for just this reason, which would be in our favor.
Also question @baconwaffle , do you know if accepting PACE is the same thing as accepting the college? I am not sure if I want to make the latter commitment yet… but I also don’t want to loose my spot.
@MCFC15 I’m exactly in the same boat/have the same concerns. So far it seems like if you get a 4.0 you should be OK and get into McCombs, but nothing is certain. My dad keeps reminding me to think about the worst possible outcome, so it’s a lot to consider.
I’m like 99% sure that accepting PACE is the same as accepting/committing to UT. I’m gonna double check with my counselor about this on Monday. I definitely don’t want to lose PACE as an option, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to commit to it yet.
@baconwaffle Yes. I have emailed my local UT admissions counselor and I plan to speak with her tomorrow. My only real preoccupations are: 1) Will McCombs be so competitive next year that it becomes impossible to transfer in (yearly trends would support that argument). And 2) Will there be some policy change that disallows this after were committed.
Please let me know how that goes/what she says about all of that! @MCFC15
^please post if whether committing to PACE is the same as committing to UTA
@bengor10152 it is NOT the same. Committing to a different college is called CAP if it is through the UT system.
@MCFC15 hey did you end up talking with your local UT admissions counselor today?
@baconwaffle I think you can do it. In order to transfer to McCombs you will need a high GPA (3.7and above as I believe PACE students are considered internal transfers, external transfers need a 3.9 + ), Calc 1&2 and Macro &Micro Economics and 26 credits. Not sure if you have AP credit for any of those courses, but if you do that would be great as they tend to GPA busters. If you need to take any of those course they’re not too bad at ACC , so with proper professor research and studying you should be able to make A’s in them. The rest of your classes should be easy, easy , easy while you apply. Research the classes with the best A rate and then take them. They don’t care what classes you take (besides the 4 previously mentioned), McCombs just looks at that GPA so just make it your mission to look up the grade distribution for every class you’re registering for and only take the ones with the highest A rates… There are many out there. There will be time to fill your schedule with more challenging coursework once you’re at McCombs , but in the meantime it’s about strategizing to secure the highest GPA. PACE is a great opportunity not offered to many and transferring to MCCombs is not impossible. If you put the work in freshman year you can do it! By the way, PACE is not the same as committing to UTA, it’s UT’s version of A&M’s Blinn …it’s actually better though as you get to live on campus like any other matriculated UT student. You’re issued a UT id and are considered an enrolled student , you will even be required to take a class on campus. Good luck on your decision and congratulations!
@nancyvh thank you so much for your response and great advice! If I do PACE, I’ll definitely need to work really hard so I can get as close as possible to a 4.0 GPA. I’m feeling a lot better about doing PACE than I felt before I made this thread. I’m talking to my counselor today, and if she gives me the “green light” with this and doesn’t say no way or McCombs won’t allow this by fall 2017, then I think I’ll commit to doing PACE. Thanks again!
You’re so welcome!! Good luck @baconwaffle !!!
Update for anyone interested/also on the waitlist: I just got offered a spot off the waitlist! Not for business, but now I get to choose from a list of liberal arts majors. I’m really excited! I didn’t receive any email about a status change–I just randomly decided to check MyStatus and saw it!
Congrats @baconwaffle!
@JAMCAFE thank you!!
