Pace University freshman considering transferring.

Hello :)

I am currently in my first semester as a freshman at Pace University in New York City. It was not my first choice, but I winded up here. I’m unhappy because I had originally planned to dorm, but after staying for a while I felt homesick, uncomfortable, and I didn’t feel the dorms were worth the price. I now commute from New Jersey everyday which takes about forty minutes. So I live at home, while most of my friends are away at college. I don’t mind living at home really, I just feel that I am not getting the “college experience”. Pace itself is okay, but I don’t feel that it is worth the money I am paying.

So, I am considering transferring to a cheaper school. My best friend attends William Paterson University in New Jersey, which would be extremely cheap, and I would dorm with her. The problem is I am unsure about whether or not I want to dorm. She says she loves it, but I have read student reviews about William Paterson in which most people said they hate it, (<a href="http://www.studentsreview.com/NJ/WPC.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.studentsreview.com/NJ/WPC.html</a>). Dorming would be more fun because she would be there, but I didn’t like dorming in Manhattan (I love NYC), so would Wayne, NJ with the addition of my best friend be that much better? Also, if I end up not liking dorming there I would be screwed because I can’t commute there easily from where I live. Would it be a good idea to transfer from Pace to William Paterson?

I am also considering Hunter College of the City University of New York. I would most likely commute there too, so I am not sure if it would be worth it to transfer there. However, they do offer single dorms, so if I like the school and get used to it I may decide to dorm one day. Also, Hunter’s website says the deadline to transfer by the Spring semester was October 1st, so I would have to stay at Pace for this entire year, whereas I could transfer to William Paterson by the Spring.

I did ok in high school…GPA was 3.5 and I took AP courses. I am undecided in regards to my major at the moment. I would appreciate some people’s opinions on whether or not transferring to William Paterson or Hunter from Pace would be a good choice. If not, any recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.
