Does anyone find that their primary problem on the ACT is that you're just not finishing?
I feel like compared to the SAT there are no baffling questions but you're expected to do it in such a short amount of time.
Take for instance the science section: 40 q's in 35 minutes plus there are passages to read?
Does anyone have any tips that could help with this?

Is it really necessary to read/understand the passages in the science section or do I just skim and answer the q's?

Personally, I need to read or skim through both the reading and science sections in order to truly understand what I am answering questions about. Even if it is a quick read, I ALWAYS glance at the sections before. It does take more time this way, but I have been more accurate in my answers in this way. Today I was even able to finish both sections with time to spare with this approach.

Honestly, I think it depends on the person. I am very analytical and conceptual, so I get paranoid if I don’t read beforehand.

YES that is my only problem with the ACTs especially the one today. I know the information but I just can’t finish and I feel like Im going as fast as I can. The only section I actually finished was writing. I don’t know what to do.

I felt like I never had enough time to take this test. I just read as fast as I could and tried to answer the questions without spending too much time on one question.

I’m going to try a practice test where I read as little as possible.
The science can be kind of scary with the unfamiliar terms but then you realize it really wasn’t that much involved.

Reading strategy for me is to read backwards, meaning from Natural Science to Prose Fiction.

One science strategy I think everyone should at least try is doing the passages with 5 questions first, then moving on to the 6 question passages, finishing up with the Conflicting Viewpoints passage. I tried this passage yesterday and had at least 6-7 minutes at the end.

I do not look at the passages when doing science. I find it better to go straight to the questions. I’m expecting a 36 on the June science section as a result of this method.

^I also tried going straight to the questions. Unfortunately, I was just not fast enough to dig the information out of the paragraphs in time, even after I knew what I was looking for. It is definitely a strategy worth trying though.

For science- as people have said, I go straight to questions
For reading I start with science, then history, then humanities and then the prose. I skim the paragraph in 1-2 min then go to questions and then go back to paragraph to answer questions.

Make sure you practice that strategy in a couple of practice tests before taking the real ACT again. While that strategy is good you need to master it before the test, as it can get confusing and scary at first.

It took me a couple of practice tests before I could feel comfortable moving back and forth with the 5-6-7 strategy.
