The reason I brought up thinking about community college is because that is the route I see successful kids (similar to GFG’s daughter) taking. College is a big leap for many different reasons. Academics, social, emotional, organizational… there are challenges galore for any student. I do know kids who have done well in high school honors classes and who have had a great experience at CC, where they have been the king of the hill for perhaps the first time in their lives. They have done semesters and minimesters and summers abroad. They have grown up a bit and had a known support system nearby. They have transfered elsewhere after one or two years, and have been successful.

Isn’t that what we all are hoping for with our own children? A successful transition to further education and life as an adult? I’m not sure why CC wouldn’t be one of several possible good fits for GFGDaughter. Three years from now she might be ready to leap into a college hours away from home, or she might not.
