or bring those items to plebe parent weekend in October.

Or A-Day in August

I thought that Plebes were required to wear their uniform home. Is that not true?

I dunno, but I've had requests to show up in uniform. Ack, that is just the girls wanting to see the goods. O well.

Actually, I think marines4me is correct. Uniforms get worn to and from the academy.

TJ, a LT from 04, said that we are not required to wear the uniforms to the airport for security reasons, but we will end up anyway.

Hi everyone. This is my first post on this board. I am the parent of a cadet class of 2008, who is currently at Camp Buckner for his CFT.

I remember him telling me that one of the most important items he brought with him were good "boot socks". I am pretty sure they were made by THORLO.

Good Luck to all - You are in for the Journey of Your Life.

I was told by a member of 07, who is going to be cadre this year, that we are not allowed to have anything that is not issued to us, except for the things listed in our instructions.

I was also told by an '06er who will be a PL during Beast 1 to bring better boot socks. She also suggested bringing 2 in 1 shampoo (because shower time will be short!) and more undergarmets than they suggested in the booklets. She said that the laundry wasn't always consistent. So, I ended up with A LOT of socks and the like. The worst thing they can do though is lock it up with my civilian bag until the end of the summer though....

My daughter was advised by a young lady who was a plebe ly to bring more undergarments as well---she particularly mentioned ladies underwear---I guess there was a shortage of smalls last year and a lot of the gals were stuck with some that were just a bit too large--- (hey, don't ask me---I'm just the dad! :) )

In any event, anything not allowed will just be packed away....

A female cadet told me to bring 12 of each type of undergarment (sports bras and underwear). She also suggested reusing sports bras, because as lapunkprincesa said, the laundry is supposed to be quite unreliable.

Cobia,
I have a Yearling at Buckner, too. Sounds like Buckner is much more fun than Beast.

If there's one thing to bring it is sock liners to save your feet.
Laundry can be very, very slow so get use to being dirty.
Good luck to all the New Cadets and their stressed out parents.
OMW2

About sock liners:

I spoke with a firstie last week and he said that, although liners are technically not allowed, he would allow them in his company since he felt they would help the company by preventing foot problems. But he went on to say that the decision to allow liners will likely differ by company.

Seems a lot of emphasis/pressure is put on the CBT leaders to ensure that their new cadets stay healthy. One of the biggest problem areas is foot blisters. CBT leaders will be rated on how well they do in this area. He claims that mandatory foot checks are scheduled several times a day during some training activities.
