I second that, they did the same to my room

Ok, so the skinny is...pack everything on indoc list PLUS 5 more pairs of all the under garments for inspection (not to be used, but just for "show")?

If you have room in the luggage this would be sound advice; otherwise, just bring the extras up later or ship them later. It's just one of those little things that can make life easier in the long run. I had the same 3 pairs all four years, all folded up until I threw them away on graduation day.

Thanks! I guess we can ship the "extra" if there is not enough room. Can he receive the package during indoc or should we wait until after indoc to ship them? Don't want to cause any problems during indoc!!!

Can someone please offer advise on what to pack clothing in for Indoc? I believe I read somewhere that you have to carry you stuff around all day and what you pack in can make a difference.

just bring whatever it tells you and whatever stuff that you think you will need and stuff we said we would recommend. i mean you just carrying your stuff. coming here you should atleast be in good enough shape to do that.

you arnt carrying it all over... you drop it off at the gym and pick it up later...

In days of old Candidates were required to carry their luggage with them everywhere on Reporting day. In the days of 'everybody play nice' you know drop your stuff off in the gym and it magically reappears in your company space later in the day. Don't worry about packing it heavy.

That's good to hear. Should we still make a handle for the boxed fan?? AND how big should the fan be..small desk top or larger floor fan?

We sent son with a 10" desktop "turbo" fan that fit into his duffle. It worked well he said. A seasoned Mom once told me to pack just the things on the list & send extra socks, ect. so that the box would arrive at the end of Indoc. And she advised to buy the cheap socks/t-shirts as they take a real beating in the beginning. (They do their own laundry during Indoc) Buy the better quality stuff later on.

The bag that you see them carrying all around in the Indoc photos is the one they supply for them to collect their PT gear, new shoes, ect. I understand that the bag they take in with them gets to go through a little inspection, then ends up in their room. I recall they took son's alarm clock out of his bag but gave it back to him after Indoc. Keep in mind, this was two years ago so things may have changed on that front.

Out of all the fans I've sent (probably at least 3 now) the turbo desk type was the favorite of my son. He did not start out with it, because that was back when you did carry everything around, so we sent the first one right after indoc with an extension cord. Don't remember if he really needed the extension cord or not though.

it's hard to say what they'll do this year, as far as what they make candidates do the first day or during indoc all together, they could totally change it. i went in personally under the impression that we would be carrying everything all day, thus i used a hiking rucksack as my only luggage, it's a bit large and hard to get on when fully packed, but it frees up your hands so you don't have to keep fumbling around with your gear. a good thing for the newcomers to learn prior to showing up is how to shine shoes well and quickly. talk to any marine, airman, sailor, or soldier and they should have some tips.

i had a military duffel... its good cheap and has a backpack built in. as for a fan i have this nice big honeywell fan... bring a power strip...

A power strip that's what I sent with the fan, not an extension cord. Sorry about the mix up. I am curious what dorms/companys have air conditioning now?

Would something like a sea bag work? We have a bunch of them around that belong(ed) to all the Navy men in our family.

yea scratch millitary duffel, I was thinking US NAVY sea bag...
