Packing for UCSB

Hello! I'll be a freshman this year at UCSB and am currently packing for my move there. I live in New York and will have to bring all my things with me now by plane. I was wondering if anyone has any advice for what to bring with me/ what to buy in California.

Thanks!

I’d bring clothes and personal items but buy all the bedding and room stuff here. Bed Bath and Beyond has this program where you can pick out stuff at the one by you and they’ll have it waiting at the one by SB.

USB key (Best Buy/Staple)
iPod/earbuds/headphones
all necessary cables/chargers
Ethernet cable (you need this to connect to your internet at your college. Find out if you get wireless in your dorm rooms, some do, some don’t. It’s a good idea to have one of these anyways because not everywhere you go has wireless. You should definitely get the longest length possible becayse you don’t know if your connection will always be near your desk. For those of you that do get wireless, sometimes there are issues with your roommates signing onto the network first and the server not allowing you to sign-on afterwards, so it’s a good idea to have the cable.)

Thank you so much for your help! That list is exactly what I needed!

That’s a great list but just a heads up that UCSB does not allow microwaves or any heating device in the rooms.

The Fendi has spoken.

And just sneak the microwave under your bed.

^^^ Really? So then I should try to sneak in my hot water pot? I was going to return in to BB&B.

Lol Kenny yes I have. o.o. No need for a microwave though, there are plenty in the lounges. You don’t need to bring a hot water pot, I usually just have a mug and microwave the water

I have a hot water pot, it came in VERY handy when it comes to very quick cup noodle meals in FT. lol

are you allowed to use a George foreman grill in the dorm rooms?
