Packing List for boarding school?

Anyone know a good place to find a comprehensive list?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/311892-ultimate-supply-list-boarding-school.html</a></p>

This may help. But isn’t it half a year away? :D

Yes!!! How about you?

I’m just too excited!

Sorry, edited since I noticed your other thread.

I was waitlisted, but I know someone who’s attending next fall as a freshman. :)

I just bumped this: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/311892-ultimate-supply-list-boarding-school-61.html</a></p>

Since that thread is getting confusing, should we start afresh?

Do most boarding schools let you have a refrigerator in your room? Like in college?

EnemyOfTheSun, where are you thinking of going?

@kaye4848: I’m probably going to Lawrenceville. As for the fridge, I suggest that you read the student’s handbook - it should mention whether you’re allowed to have a refrigerator in your room. It varies from school to school. IIRC, Taft doesn’t.

Congrats on being accepted to such a great school anyway :)

Okay, I understand that you’re excited . . . but to post this thread within days after many, many of your fellow CC’ers ended up with nothing but denials or waitlists strikes me as extraordinarily insensitive. There are still several threads on the forum addressing the grief and frustration many of us feel over the results we, our children or our fellow CC’ers received this week. How about waiting for the activity on those threads to die down before asking about your packing list?

Copied my post from the “Ultimate” thread:

@dodgersmom - I respectively disagree.

Those kids who were not able to gain an acceptance this year, or who are hoping for movement off a waitlist, are very aware that other students were admitted. Part of dealing with adversity and setbacks is developing resiliency, finding the inner strength to move on, and letting go of any resentment toward others with a different result.

This forum is a resource for all - and if this is a helpful discussion for any poster here, I don’t think it is an inappropriate topic for discussion.

On revisit days, carefully check out what most people are wearing. Sometimes the “dress code” is not really a “dress code”. At some schools, jeans are fine and almost everyone wears them, but they are not mentioned in the published dress code.

I hate to say how much stuff we got last year that has come back unworn.

Many schools have an optional weekly laundry service (I think it is M&K) that is pretty reasonable and saves you lots of time. They dry clean and iron.

Once you get to school, there may be fashions you would like to try. Take the essentials, (nothing ripped or torn) make the most of what you already have, and WAIT UNTIL YOU GET THERE to figure out new wardrobe items you may want. Especially with girls, everyone borrows everything all the time anyway.

The exception is basics like underwear, socks. Have 2 weeks supply in case you miss doing laundry one week. For winter climates, a warm utility coat (like a North Face waterproof, down or similar) and waterproof boots (LL Bean’s are popular) are important.
