Packing list for freshman

I am a first time college mom and have somewhat of an idea of what my son will need for his dorm. Does anyone know of a good website, or can anyone help make a list here for what freshman will need in their dorms, and what would also be nice to have. Maybe if you are finishing your Freshman year, you could add what you wished you would have had. Any info would be helpful. Also, are there stores near campus, like Target, or Bed,Bath and Beyond for last minute items?? If so, how would the kids get there without a car? I am sure this list will be helpful for tons of people! Thanks!!

Exciting!

There is a Target nearby, and USC offers free shuttles there during the week after move-in. Sheets need to be “XL,” and he will need a mattress pad - the mattresses are hard and plastic-covered.

Some good ideas in this thread from 2008: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/551979-what-you-packing.html#post1060854343

Thanks! It is hard because you want your child to have all the comforts of home, but we have to realize that there is minimal space! I’ll check out that link.
