Packing / luggage

On average, how many suitcases do students usually bring for a 3 month internship?

Ah, so many questions you need to think about, as there’s no exact number. Girl or guy? Warm or cold weather? Business suits needed or bathing suits? Business casual or formal 5 days a week? How much extra gear will you need for your living accommodations? Are you a light packer or heavy? What other activities do you plan to do while NOT working?

Girl

Warm weather, maybe a few thunderstorms

Involves field work- will need to bring hiking boots, very basic gear

Only need one or two sets of nice clothes for the 10 weeks

Need to bring own bedsheets, blanket, pillow, towels, toiletries, shower stuff (either buy there or bring…I don’t want to buy anything if I don’t have to)

Plan to go on hikes, maybe swimming, go to concerts, picnics, etc

And yes, I like fashion and having choices.

Please give me some advice :)

You’ll want to create a checklist, more than anything. Have you got a good suitcase with wheels? The size of your bags really determines how many. Get everything organized, then start packing. Cull when you see what fits or doesn’t.

Bathing suits, (one for tanning, one for “the field”), rain gear, hiking shoes, water shoes, and lots of socks, shorts, windbreaker, T-shirts. Purchase polyester items more than cotton. Cotton is miserable when wet, while poly dries faster, lightweight yet durable. (My S camped out for 2 weeks, carrying his gear. The leaders insisted he only have poly. Hiked 110 miles.)
BASIC Toiletries and linens: bedsheets, blanket, pillow, towels, shower stuff. Don’t overdo what you’re bringing. If there’s a chance you can buy it, buy it. Usually by the time you wish you brought something, you’ll only have 3-4 weeks left and then you realize you can live without for a while longer. Do you need to bring water supply? (Bring a system that converts water, so you’ll use what’s there.) Toilet paper?

Although you like fashion, this may not be your venue to show off your wares. Remember what you’re there for and be prepared for that. Bring your camera and binoculars too!
