For those of you who are driving to Stanford...how are you guys packing? Are you putting everythng in boxes so once you get there you dispose of the box or are you putting stuff in suitcases?
any tips on packing?

i'm thinking about going there first on my own
and about a week later, have my brother bring me the rest of my things..plus stuff i decide i need....is that a wise thing to do"?

just take everything up that you'll need at once. it makes more sense. and if your bro goes up afterwards, he can take stuff you don't need back. also, are you driving up and keeping your car there? or are you parents or brother driving the car back?

if you're keeping the car than just pack things in bags or boxes so you can throw them away. if your parents are driving back, then you can do it in suitcases since they can just drive them back.

I'm guessing that since you're posting in this forum... you're a freshman, which means you can't have a car on campus. So either you didn't know, or you planned to have an upperclassman buy your permit...

I would actually go with all boxes either way. You can easily stuff the boxes under your bed or on top of the dresser or something and then they will be there when you need to back everything at the end of the year. Boxes seems to work for the car. I had about 4 boxes, a suitcase, bedding, clothing on hangers, and my backpack and shoulder bag. It all fit nicely in the car along with me and my dad.

I think you should take one big suitcase, one small rolling carry-on type suitcase, and everything else in boxes.

Sounds complicated, but my reasoning is that if you go home for Winter Break, you'll probably want a big suitcase (or even big+small). If you go home for a weekend, or maybe on some other sort of trip, you'll probably want the small bag. For everything else, boxes are easier because you can trash them or fold them up and stick them somewhere.
