My son is still a Sr in HS and Whitman is on his list, but his good friend graduated last year and got in on EA. Definitely not the granola type. I had not heard that description LOL. Probably someplace I would like if that's the norm, but not my son. As far as I can tell, my S's friend likes it there. So maybe non-granola types are welcome :-)

TM, thanks for that! I know what you mean - when I heard that comment about the granola types, I thought hey, can I get in? It's perfect for me!

Anyway, glad to hear the personal recommendation. D applied last night! We've got our fingers crossed; she loves the school, whatever cereal they embody.

Thanksgiving update.... the usual winter fog in Walla Walla closed the airport last night. Horizon/Alaska dumped the kids in - pardon me, re-routed the flight to - Pendleton, Oregon (about an hour away). They all called friends for rides. I haven't had a long enough talk with D to hear if the airline offered any transportation options other than waiting.
Great school
Pain in the B*** rating is going up with every trip.

dragonmom, my S was on the same flight that was rerouted to Pendelton. I am so impressed that he was able to join up with a couple of other student stragglers and have someone come get them from Whitman, aren't you? What nice kids! I agree with the stress over the travels...really tough. I was up late until I knew he was back to campus safely.

The weather issue was for the entirety of Eastern Washington. Folks going back to Whitworth, WSU or any other school in the region might have had problems. As it was, my Seattle to Pasco flight had no troubles, nor did the two chartered buses, or the dozens of other ways to route through to Walla Walla. There are many reasons to potentially not come to Whitman, but complaining about the ease of getting here seems silly to me.

Finnegar, I didn't mean to imply that Whitman students were the only ones affected by the weather. I went to WSU as a student and know that the return from Thanksgiving is traditionally the worst weather weekend of the year. I have watched cars slide sideways off the highway at midnight Sunday night while traffic moved at 7 MPH. That said, calling transportation worries as "silly" denigrates the concerns of those who live thousands of miles away whose kids are suddenly stranded in small airports late at night.
I'm a huge Whitman fan and talk it up every chance I get down here.
