I was wondering if anyone knew of any top colleges that STILL allow students to paint the walls of their dorm room (provided that the students re-paint the dorms when the year ends). I know this is a bit of a random question, but I was just wondering if anyone knew the answer!

(Top colleges IMO = anything from the level Princeton to around the level of Emory)

Most schools don't allow it, and you'll get fined if you chose to do it anway. Why would you want to paint anyway? You have to agree on a color that you and your roommate will like, you have to buy it, actually do the painting, buy the white to repaint at the end of the year, and then actually repaint. Seems like a waste to me. But, yeah, at most schools it's no paint, no nails hammered into the walls, no disassembling anything, ect. Just get a lot of posters to decorate your side of the room.

Just draw or paint with washable paint, if you just want a drawing on your wall anyhow. Some girls I know had weird ass drawings on their walls and they just washed it off several days later

yeah...painting the walls won't work at almost any university; however, last year we had some girls figure out you can get the same effect in their on campus apartment by buying a large piece of canvas and cut it to the size of the wall and paint it and place it on the wall... it actually looked identical to painting the wall... I forget exactly how they did it, though... shouldn't be too difficult and it looks amazing.

You can paint your walls and then at the end of the semester just paint everything white again. Not really a big deal. If anything, having fresh paint on the walls at the end of the semester will make your room look new, and they'll thank you for it.

I think Northwestern allows it in certain dorms from a batch of pre-chosen colors. If they don't allow it at your school, however, there are lots of other things you can do that can help spruce up the room....I've seen people use tapestries and fabric on the walls that can really change the look. I personally think that posters, if not properly coordinated, just make the walls look cluttered but maybe I'm just too picky. I really like art.com for this kind of stuff.

Our RAs are allowed to paint their own rooms and the floor lobby, but individual rooms aren't allowed to be painted. Can you imagine how thick the walls would get over time?
