are Pakistani-Americans URM at Princeton? I read somewhere that Princeton is trying very hard to shed its "preppy white image", so is Pakistani-Americans one of the groups that they are trying to increase the enrollment of???

Actually , i heard that they were actually looking for people of middle eastern and asian descent, as long as people have another 'hook' - like being able to join the chess team or something.

Pakistani is considered Asian, and so they are not considered URMs.

sorry, but if ur asian or white, wherever u apply, ur not gonna be given a race-based advantage.

Not exactly. Composing a diverse student body also means compiling the class out of people of different backgrounds; so, if your background stands out (even tho you are asian or white). i think, your chances are raised.

ThePolishDude is right. It depends which region you are applying to and whether or not there are many students of that ethnicity there. An Asian or Pakistani-American applying to a school like Grinell College (in Iowa), or a school in the south will probably be considered an URM, because there are few Asian students in those areas. Hispanic students are more represented in the Cali/Florida areas, so they would get more of a boost applying to a school where the representation is lower, like New Hampshire. The point is, if there are many Asians/Pakistani in the region/state/college area you are applying to, the "boost" will be minimal.

Yes, you may be right. I have a brother who attends Princeton with 1270 SAT and 3.8 GPA (no extra-currics to speak of), and we're ethnically Afghan. The number of Pakistani students has really dropped in all the Ivies, since they were generally grouped with the Indians and have found it hard competing against them.

"are Pakistani-Americans URM at Princeton?"

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
((breathes))
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

NO!

lol.....

thanks for the replies guys. I had my hopes all high and stuff. I am sure that being URM is never a deciding factor or the impact isn't that great.

Heck with all the URM business, I am still applying ED at Princeton.

First of all, what is URM?

Annandale1, you should definitely depend more on your strengths than your ethnicity. Trust me - if you get into Princeton you don't want it to be because you're a URM.

You have excellent taste in schools, btw. ;)
