Pakistani International

Salam everyone! i am a Pakistani currently studying in Lahore Grammar School, Lahore and am appling to the US this year. Below is my brief resume and the list of universities that i am applying to. I would really really really appreciate if anyone could rate my chances at all the universities and explain as well. Thanx!!!!

SAT 1 score: 2050
SAT2 : Not given yet, will give in October
O Level Result: 9A's out of 11subjects, 2 B's
2 High Achiever awards in the Pakistan region in Pure Maths and Human Biology by the Edecel Examinations Board
A's and B's in my A'level subjects throughout the year but expected grades for the A'level examinations will be all A's inshallah
A fair amount of extracurriculars:
3 internships, at a hospital, orphanage and a university and fundraising activities
Countless achievements in sports, particularly table tennis - have a real passion for it
Am counsel member in LGS(my A'level school)

The universities taht i am applying to are:
Bates
Tufts
Bard
Colby
Colgate
Mount. Holyoke
Wellesley

I am also applying for 100% Financial aid i.e full tuition waiver. Have like 5 other siblings, with 2 in college.
Keeping all this in mind, wat do u think my chances are of getting in with 100% financial aid especially with these recent developments in terrorist bombings, whcih means that many ppl are not applying to the US and Uk?

with full fin. aid ur chances are almost zero. look for a less prestigious one

^wth?? noo you have good chance
most intels don't do internships because they don't have enough time and all they do is study hard hard hard to get that measley A.
Terrorism - yeaah i guess you'll have a better chance if you're country is underrepresented.

You applied for FAFSA? If so, apply to heaps and heaps of colleges. I suggest even HYPM. All need blind.. if you get accepted, they will give you all the money you need. However, if your 2 siblings are not in undergraduate school, the total you have to pay will not be reduced. Remember, at need-based schools, they calculate how much you NEED. If they calculate and find out that your fam can pay 4000$, you will have to pay.. But the 36000$ will be given.
(at princeton, you get 100% grant, no loans)
Also, WUSTL gives full aid to intels who qualify but it's a bit competitve.

I suggest you to raise your SAT score up a bit. Around about 2200?
SAT 2s - aim for 700+

You are not applying to any needblind schools which is a pitty. You really should.. The need for fin aid and being an intel really weighs down your chances. HYPM williams is the way to go.. If you have fafsa, you really really should apply to those. Ok you really should, atleast to ONE of them. The chances may not seem realistic but you never know with the top ivies. Even the greatest has an average chance.

Write excellent essays, score well in sat 1,2 and apply to your schools on the list plus some of my suggested needbase schools and you'll be set. Good on you for the internships! The schools love intels (esp from asia) who take time away from studying like crazy

The fafsa? isn't that ONLY for us citizens? Atleast thats wat my research told me, all the universities that i listed said that i would need to fill out the international financial aid form and not the Fafsa.
"You are not applying to any needblind schools". U know ur reallly starting to freak me out cuz on ALL of these universities websites, its stated clearly that they are need-blind!!! Why else would i choose them?
About that SAT scores, my score is the 4rth best in our school( which is the best in Pakistan for girls), the hightest score in my school was 2100 so i guess if u compare my scores with the rest in my country, i guess i'm not too far off. if i get 2250 and above in SAT2 then i think i might have a slightly good chance. Wat do u think??i also have a couple of other nice things which i didn't write down e.g. finalist in the intercollegiate science fair, in 1% of my class in O'Levels and top 5% in A'levels so i guess i might be a ble to make it with full scholarship especially with my 2 brothers and sisters in undergraduate colleges.
Which university is HYMH?
Thanx noFX for the really helpful reply, i really really really appreciated it! Hope u can reply soon to this. Thanx again!!

HYPM is short for Harvard Yale Princeton MIT...

Thanx jai6638 for making that clear

There's this girl who used to come on CC often.. I forgot her name but she was from India and got into MIT. She told me at one time that she got her principal to write a letter about her excellent acadamic, cultural, sports, everything qualities and her weak financial situation.
She got this application waiver thing.. I just assumed it was fafsa.. maybe I am wrong on this. Sorry if it is!

And maybe I am mistaken too on this part - HYPM williams being the only needblind schools.. But I am pretty sure I hit the target on this one. Maybe the above schools you listed are needblind for U.S citizens?

And I just remembered that girl's name: Laila Shabir (do you guys remember her? Got into MIT that lucky girl)
If you want her msn thing, i have it.

Hi i am a Pakistani in BMI, Beaconhouse Margalla Islamabad
why dont u write or whatever in the Pakistani thread....

FAFSA is only for US citizens and permanent citizens. It determines the amount of Federal aid someone is eligible for. And of course internationals don't get federal aid.

And I don't really know about Tufts and Bard but rest of the schools in your list are pretty generous with aid. They are not need blind however, so asking for a full scholarship works to your disadvantage. But there's no reason why you shouldn't get one. HYPSM and all seem a little out of reach so do apply to those in your list... you never know. ;)

if you can... up those SAT 1 scores and ace the SAT IIs to better your chances. if you want a free ride you need to do all you can.. best of luck

Thanx everybody for the help, really needed it! Yeah, i guess i will apply to these colleges, have a reasonable chance of getting in i think so here goes.. and thatnx everyone for the help!

Salaams Dexteri!
Well you need not to underestimate yourself! bEING A GIRL add 30% more to your luck!
Just add 3-5 top schools to your list, for you never now how lucky you are if you are competent enough! Maintain your internal grades, dont scew up your SAT2s and you will definitely find yourself somewhere in a top school! Inshallah!
btw what do you want to major in?
n what are your A level subjects? given AS or all together?

If there is anything you would like to ask just PM me, i have gone through all this excercise last year, so you will be getting answers to most of your admissions related questions.
Best of lUCK!

Anyway, i recommend adding Smith College to the list if u want an all-girls college

Anyone here knows how to get a application waiver???

hey, sorry cres, took so long to reply, didn't see the message. I want to major in Biology, hopefully in the gentic area or the bioengineering one. I have 4 subjects in A'level ( Bio, Maths, Physics and Chemistry) which i will be giving next year in May inshallah. I don't know abt the additional 30%, having doubts abt the 10% chance that i do have. With 100% financial assitance, my chances are pretty low, but yeah, i guess ur rite, wats the harm in trying, athough i really hope i get in some place nice inshallah. Anywayz, wat abt u? Where r u currently stuying? I assume u gave ur A'levels, from where? Thanx again for replying to my post.
And thatnx to u too jai007, i thought abt that but my sister applied over there, had pretty much the same vredentials and she got only 75% aid including a merit award so don't think i will get more.
And deference, in order to get that fee waiver, u need ur counsellors sinature on the dotted line in the common application where it says that ur counsellpr approves the waiver or not. So u need to convince ur counsellor first that u really deserver the waiver.
