My family got vaccinated for seasonal flu in Sept, except for our boarding student who was to get it on campus. But, the school has only gotten enough vaccine for about 10% of the students so far. So even the seasonal flu vaccine is in short supply—I took my boarder off campus last weekend to get one at a drugstore clinic and they were out. H1N1 vaccine? Don’t hold your breath. Fingers crossed for enough vaccine for all who want it soon.

[Why CDC says this year’s flu season is “very sobering” : Effect Measure](http://scienceblogs.com/effectmeasure/2009/10/why_cdc_says_this_years_flu_se.php?utm_source=nytwidget)

I think it’s picking up at my son’s school; son’s roommate has gone home and so has someone on the soccer team (I am concerned many on the team will now be ill as well). School sent another update saying numbers had increased and they were sending students who could be picked up home until they were well. They canceled everything today (classes, practices, etc.) for a school-wide “day of rest”.

Daughter came home for a week with presumed H1N1 flu. Back at school now, and working hard to catch up on work missed…visiting this weekend for Parents’ Weekend.

I just picked up info on another forum that Gunnery is closing down for 5 days and Parents weekend is cancelled.

The athletic events between Andover and NMH have been canceled for tomorrow 10/24 due to an outbreak at NMH.

I think part of the reason was the weather, though. My son’s team is all healthy.

That’s good to hear.

Gunnery has canceled all games this weekend and is sending everyone home early; this was parent’s weekend as well so they would have left campus anyway through Tuesday.

This is a ummm, rough year at The Gunnery as a fourth student has alleged that he was molested by the former Dean.

NMH still on an amended class schedule.

Hubby came home from Parents’ Weekend and reported that he had heard that NMH had as many cases in one week as PA had for the whole term thus far. I can imagine that would be rather overwhelming for everyone involved!

Is the open house Saturday at NMH still on?

New water-based hand-cleaning stations are popping up all over the place. If you’re touring this year, I’d suggest bringing your own little bottle of waterless hand-cleaner in a ziplock bag.

Son’s school is scheduled to begin H1N1 vac on Monday. Parents have until Saturday to complete the online consent form. Trick or Treat? idk.

I don’t know about the open house. I would call.

this is not about prep school but this young death has been getting alot of play here in Canada:

I have been on the fence about the H1N1 vaccine and had decided not to have my son (or myself) vaccinated. Then, I saw the 60 Minutes show last week and changed my mind. I sent in permission for him to get it. His school received an early round of the vaccines and I was notified he would be receiving it today. I once again decided against it and called to let my son know not to get it, but alas, he had just received it. I know chances are small that there will be a problem, but I am still nervous.

keylyme, I value your opinion, as a health professional, on this matter. I, too, have gone back and forth/forth and back. This is not an easy decision for me.

Your son is lucky, keylyme.

^^Thanks you, nylecoj007. Many medical professionals have reservations about this vaccine and are not in agreement with the CDC. I am not talking about radical or fringe groups, but mainstream physicians.

Parlabane - I hope he will be. I had (still have) reservations about this vaccine, based on my own reading and research, as well as input from our pediatrician who has his own reservations about this “rushed” vaccine.
