Panhellenic Recruitment "now open"?

I see on the panhellenicucsd.org website that "Recruitment Registration Now Open". I also see there's a lengthy application. Is it okay for a freshman to apply now? It asks for a room number, campus address, etc, which I obviously don't have yet. Those fields are optional, but is it better to wait? Also, a woman who was in a sorority when she was in college who is now in upper management of a very well known company that I interned for has offered to write me a letter of recommendation. Is that an opportunity I should accept or is that a little over the top? Any info is appreciated!

You can apply whenever you want, but you could wait until the beginning of September when you have your campus address and room number. It honestly doesn’t matter either way. Just make sure you register before the deadline!

Letters of Rec are good at UCSD, they aren’t super common though. Rush isn’t very competitive and you will be able to get a bid without them. We get a handful every year. If I were you I’d probably just get it just because she offered, haha

PS if you have anymore recruitment questions I’d be happy to answer them :)

Thanks a bunch, ucsandiego915! Your post was super helpful! I hope you don’t mind if I PM you right now with some more questions!

On the recruitment schedule, open house night starts at 4, but if I get the schedule I want, my last class ends at 5 that day. Is it okay if I’m a little late?
I’m really excited but so nervous too!
My biggest fear is ending up really liking a house but then not getting a bid from them. eeek.

when you get your sigma rho chi (like an orientation leader), just be sure to tell them AS SOON AS you know your schedule. it is possible to work around it.

recruitment at ucsd is a mutual selection process, meaning its not based on just what the chapters want, but also what the ladies rushing want as well.

Yeah you’ll be fine, I had the same problem when I went through recruitment and I actually skipped my class, which worked out fine. Just let your recruitment counselor know you’ll be late beforehand. Usually the first hour is just spent sitting with your Rho Chi (recruitment counselor) discussing what will be going on that night. So it won’t be that bad if you show up late. You definitely don’t want to miss any parties though… cause you’ll be automatically dropped from those houses (you have the option to write the chapter a letter explaining your absence but from what I’ve seen, those never work)

do people ever just… not get a bid?

Some people drop out because they aren’t open minded and don’t like the sororities that have invited them back.

It’s very easy to get a bid at UCSD, it’s not a competitive recruitment. Just be personable, outgoing, and be yourself!

i’m nervous too! and also, fruitytart, that scheduled is for last year! maybe this year will be a little different? can any UCSD sorority insiders give us some insight into the schedule for this year?
