Panicking!

Clarification - the State of Virginia will provide you approximately 3K to attend a PRIVATE school in the State of Virginia only - not a private school is some other state.

Richard Bland College is in state and only $4k per year. Your test scores are a little low. I think your options are Radford, Richard Bland or community college. I’m not quite clear on whether you are a senior or junior. If you are a junior you have time to get those scores up. If you’re a senior you have little time to be picky.

Only on CC would someone with a 3.8 be advised to attend community college or the easiest directional in the state.

With a 3.87 and a score that’s likely to grow to a 1650-1700, you have lots of other good options in VA, either public or private, and MANY options at good colleges out of state. Now that your mother is on board, check out college guides and start reading. Don’t limit yourself by state (actually, if you apply far away, you bring “geographical diversity” and that gives you a little boost in desirability.)

( Fwiw, Radford’s averages are 3.1/1480)

However the Richard Bland suggestion is always good to bring up, not for you necessarily, but for other students from VA who may be reading:
Richard Bland is a special residential program whereby all students who earn 3.25 are automatically admitted to William and Mary (15 students in the Honors College are even allowed to take their T-TH classes at W&M). Virginia Piedmont has a similar agreement with UVA but I don’t think it’s residential.

@ MYOS1634 You have been very helpful. I cannot thank you enough for all the information. With my current scores and my school’s college admission history, it seems JMU may be a safety and with a 1900, Penn State and Virginia Tech could be safeties as well. I have finally stopped panicking and decided to apply to these colleges:
-Penn State
-JMU
-Virginia Tech
-Sarah Lawrence
-URichmond
-Syracuse
-Occident

 • GWU

Thanks to everyone who helped as well. (:

I’m glad you have stopped panicking. Your GPA is great. Another safety would be Juniata.

Good luck, I wish you well!

I have nothing to add except to wish you good luck and congratulate you on being so mature for your age.
If you are getting low scores on critical reading, look at McgrawHill PSAT book, it gives good suggestions. It is highly possible to jump from 1500s to 1800+. Some colleges accept SAT and ACT scores later than Dec, contact the admissions offices.
