I don't know if this is good or bad, but today i got an email saying that I scored high enough on the pre-orientation language placement test that I can place out of the requirement at USC. However, I have to take a paper and pencil test on thursday during welcome week. Did anybody get this also? And does anyone know if the test is significantly harder than the one we took during pre-orientation online?

I got that email too, i think you have to take the written test just to make sure that no one took the online test for you (at least thats my guess for having to take it again).

it's good. if you do well on this test too, then you don't have to take any foreign language. the same is the case for people who scored a 4 or 5 on an AP foreign language test... we have to take the test on thursday, even though i haven't received the above email. probably since i did not take the online test.

yupp got this too. let's hope that the test's not too bad so we can place out of the language requirement..

I think it might be a little bit harder. The reason I say this is because last semester's Spanish 3 students (and maybe other level Spanish students) test-drove the pre-orientation placement test. I also took a test during orientation last year (which I would assume to be the same or similar to the one you will be taking). If all of the aforementioned assumptions are true, the test you guys will take on Thursday of Welcome Week might be more difficult on the basis of not only more questions, but also on a little more detail (such as in grammar). I think what really helps in terms of grammar is not only knowing conjugations (which is, undoubtedly, important), but also knowing which conjugation and verb tense to use within the context of given text. That all being said, I think that if you guys scored pretty high on the pre-orientation placement test, then you guys have a great shot of passing out of the foreign language requirement. Good luck!
