Par-tay!

Well I still can't choose between Emory and Rice. They both seem great academically. Now I just need to know more about the social life. What are people like at Emory? Is it a fun place to be? Is there school spirit and a sense of community? Are people generally nice?

Just Come To Emory ;)

look at the rice boards! i responded there! :)

well....actually check your email b/c i sent you an email.

carafull, I have this choice as well
for me, however, the choice is easier. i got a scholarship at emory but not at rice
as for fit, personally I love rice. I love the residential college system. from what i've learned it's challenging academically, but it's a lot of fun. they have cool traditions like beer-biking, playing jacks (tricks) on each other.

just read this article:
Willy Week jacks reach outside of the box - News

emory traditions aren't as cool in my opinion (I don't know why I'm writing this on the emory board, i'm going to get flamed), and the residential colleges simply appeals much more to me than going greek at emory.

simone, i didn't get the e-mail, but I'll check out the rice boards now!

I still feel they're comparable. Rice has Willy's Week, Emory has Dooley's Week (look it up). Also, in the course of three weeks Emory will have brought Ok Go, Lupe Fiasco, and Ghostface Killah to campus, as well as Akon last fall.

*What are people like at Emory? *

I found them to be incredibly welcoming and down to earth. Every student seemed happy to be there (although I bet it did not help that I went during Dooley's Week). All were very approachable.

*Is it a fun place to be? *

I had a fun time while I was there (again, I went during Dooley's Week, though). There always seemed to something fun going on. Also, I heard there were plenty of fraternity and sorority parties on the weekends.

Is there school spirit and a sense of community?

This was actually a concern for me as well. But there actually is school spirit there. I mean, maybe not as much as another school with a large football team but it was def. present. They really do care about the sports that they do have. Students donning "Emory" clothing is an example of this.

Are people generally nice ?

Simply put, yes. I met not a single mean or unfriendly person while I was ther. Doors were held for me, questions were answered for me. I was incredibly impressed.
