parchment.com predictions?

has anyone else used parchment.com? (you can input your gpa, sat, and class ranking to get a prediction of whether or not you'll get in)

i'm wondering about the accuracy of this service because looking at the information for the students who submitted information, it seems like i'm within the range of accepted students. i was given an acceptance probability of 18% (i have a 3.4 gpa in college and an 1800 sat score) and now i'm freaking out. i know this is just a website and it has no way of really predicting acceptance/denial without an essay, etc.

can someone else please weigh in on this so i don't worry myself to death?

ps. good luck to everyone else currently waiting for news! april can't come soon enough

@phoebebuffay I would not be too worried with a good GPA like yours. Don’t worry.

I made an account to test out the accuracy of Parchment (Bare in mind, I’m FIT alumni but I was wondering if they would accurately tell me whether I would get in or not, despite the fact that I’ve already attended and graduated). Based on the information I entered, I was told I have an 11% chance of getting into school (out of the 43% who get admitted). I also tried it out with Parsons and they told me I had a 100 percent chance but that’s probably because I was logged in with my Facebook, which reveals that I went there. Because there’s always a possibility that they might be pulling their acceptance statistics from Collegeboard and are also heavily reflecting on SAT scores into their predictions, I think a lot of these services don’t reflect how a big part of applying to art schools isn’t so much the grades as it is the portfolio, so it’s not going to be an accurate reflection of whether you’ll get in, the essay withstanding.

@Blockhead thanks for the feedback! i feel much better after reading that. i applied for fashion merchandising, so i didn’t need a portfolio but even without that aspect i can’t imagine parchment is a completely accurate tool since it doesn’t account for essays or academic rigor

@phoebebuffay, no problem! It definitely depends on the program you’re applying to as well, but you are right that seems to just be giving you a general probability based on admission rates. The only way to really know is to apply.

My two cents - parchment is useless. My D was accepted to a selective LAC and got $15k merit - the same school parchment said that she had a 20% chance of being accepted to.

@sschickens i was just accepted so i guess that confirms what you said!

Awesome!! Best of luck!
