Parent here if you have questions

I already replied to this post. But, What did your daughter’s theatrical resume look like?

There is another post about this but my son attend the MT summer immersion and loved it!

Can anyone give me the names of some decent hotels close to CCM? Just found out my D has a voice audition there in Jan. and a MT audition at Unifieds in Chicago!

I’ve stayed at this one, its very close and nice:
Hampton Inn & Suites Cincinnati/Uptown-University Area
3024 Vine Street | Cincinnati | OH | United States 45219
T: 1-513-281-2700 | F: 1-513-281-0700

Hampton Inn is very nice.

If you need cheaper and “OK”…
Quality Hotel & Suites
4747 Montgomery Road
Cincinnati, OH 45212
(513) 351-6000

4.5 miles away.

Thank you both very much. We will most likely fly so we need a place very close to campus.

You can walk to CCM from the Hampton Inn, leaving your rental car at the hotel. Highly recommend staying there. Or you could take the shuttle to/from the airport and not need a rental car while there unless you have time to explore the city.

We were ther December 7 audition stayed at Hampton. They were awesome. We decided to take cabs around and they hooked us up with Miss Edith from Emerald Taxi. She was a wonderful women. Hotel did not recommend walking after dusk. She drives us back and forth as dance call was early but voice not til 4:25.

We are booked at the Hampton. Thank you for the information on taxis. Not a fan of walking too much in January anyway! How do I sign up for the shuttle?

There are a few nice restaurants close by, one of my favorites is Taste of Belgium, on Short Vine. Very Close to the Hampton.

Airport shuttle is 800-990-8841. We always pay for roundtrip as it’s cheaper than paying twice for a one-way trip. They’ve always been prompt and very helpful. Murmur’s restaurant recommendation is a good one. And there are a few new sandwich places between Hampton and Taste of Belgium. Short Vine is being cleaned up and new businesses are moving in.

Taste of Belgium + Chicken & Waffles = Yummy (Good brewed coffee too.)

Drunken Bento (on McMillan) is a bit of a college dive, but it’s yummy sushi for “half-price” and open until 3 AM (or something ridiculous like that.)

Finally, I insist on going to Adriotco’s pizza every time we are at CCM (also on McMillan.)

We went downtown to Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar, typical chain but it was fun and pretty good.

If you like Indian food, the best I’ve ever had is directly across the street from Drunken Bento - Deep India!

Thanks everyone for the great info. Looking forward to the trip.

Hello blueskies, I don’t know if you’re still on the forum, but if you are, I’d be very grateful for your input.

My S has just been accepted to the MT course at CCM. We’re all thrilled, and slightly in shock, since he wasn’t very confident about his performance at the audition. Now he is trying to figure out whether CCM is really the place for him. My S loves musical theater and is very willing to work very hard - his work ethic is one of the reasons he is increasingly in demand in our local professional theater scene. On the other hand, I think he is intimidated by the idea of being under constant pressure and in constant competition with other students. He is also very down-to-earth and professional about what he does, and is a little put off by the rather over-the-top conversations he has seen on the CCM Facebook group since he joined it.

You are in a perfect place to comment - what is it really like to study MT at CCM? What sort of students really do best there? And is the atmosphere really as high-pressure as CCM’s reputation suggests?

CONGRATS! Interesting, what the heck are they saying on Facebook? My S is very good friends with a CCM sophomore. From her prospective, and from some of the other students he’s spent time with while visiting her, it is a high pressure environment;. I’m not sure if its more or less than any other program. S’s friend does fairly well in that type of environment, she’s competitive and driven. I can tell you that in her circle they are very close, the class basically does everything together and they are very supportive of each other. Many of them came home with her to audition in Pittsburgh for summer stock, they all stayed at her house as did my S. They auditioned together and supported each other the whole weekend. I think your S should arrange to sit in on classes and spend time on campus

My S is waitlisted, CCM has been in top choice as long as I can remember. He really loved Rider and immediately felt at home there. Its likely he will commit and not wait for a CCM acceptance. He can’t even believe he’s considering it. So I do think spending time on the campus will really help with his decision.

@MTMajorCook. It’s all about fit! So exciting that he felt so at home at Rider! With all I’ve been hearing, makes me wish maybe we had put it on D’s list!

@MattockDad I am a current Junior MT at CCM and would love to answer any questions you or your S may have about the MT program

MattockDad, your description of your S fits my D exactly, and, through rumors and hearsay (some of it from people in the know; some not), has the same concerns about CCM, so she is considering taking it off her list of schools. (She is a current junior.) She’s used to hard work and pressure (she’s been in professional shows), but she’s been hearing that CCM’s environment is perhaps the least nurturing of programs, that it is cutthroat and critical without being very caring, and also that they do cut people. I’d really hate to have her rule out CCM if this isn’t true; it obviously helps produce great professionals, and it has for a long time.

Perhaps we should ask this in the general MT section; I’m not sure how often people not currently in CCM or possessing real knowledge of this check the CCM threads.
