Parent is Deceased. How do I fill out FAFSA?

My mom (single parent) died of cancer last July... I've been trying to reapply for financial aid, but it says if I choose not to provide parental information my FAFSA will be labeled as "incomplete".

Has anyone else in this situation successfully submitted the FAFSA?

I don't know what to do. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest that you call your college and ask the FA office for advice. They will know the best route to go.

Blue-Ten, I am sorry for your loss.

Please do call the financial aid office at your institution, they will have the best answers.

Good luck to you.

One of the questions for dependency asks if you parents are deceased. If you answere yes then you are considered independent for financial aid purposes so should not have to provide parent information.

If both parents are deceased, you are an orphan & will fill out your FAFSA as an independent student. If your father is alive, you are expected to use his info. If there is a reason you are unable to do so, you will fill out the FAFSA without parent info - and call the school to ask about a dependency override appeal.

My condolences on your loss.
