Parent Of A UNCA Student. Willing To Answer Any Questions

BAL to your son @STHmom

@bfahopeful do you recall how long the audition process was? I know that some of the auditions can run 3-4 hours  We recently applied and hoping for a morning audition slot  if needed, I can always fly S to LA instead of the unifeds here that are literally 8 minutes away from our home

@actingdreams they have a group info session for parents and students that is 30-45 min. Then you have your individual audition which is about 10-15 min.

It is possible you could have an hour or two between those two things. However you don’t want to stray too far in case they are running ahead of schedule, etc.

They will tell you specifics. Such as “group info session at 8:30 and audition at 10:15”. You will know ahead of time and they do their best to accommodate you.

@bfahopeful I wouldn’t have ever thought about uncsa but after reading about this school on here and speaking to you personally, I’m really excited for the audition. The auditor (Mr. Poole) changed our audition time due to scheduling conflicts and although we’re auditioning for NYU, it seems like I’m more excited for uncsa. I hope both auditions go well but it would be nice to get into UNSCA

@actingdreams best of luck at both (all) auditions!. UNCSA and NYU are very different programs. Both excellent in different ways. :).

My S applied for their screenwriting program. I’ve heard it’s absolutely amazing. His interview was 1/20 via Skype and the admissions counselor was very encouraging. He’s got a 3.45GPA and 1280 on the SAT. How long does it usually take to hear something? Also what can you tell me about the program? Thanks for starting this thread. It’s always nice to hear something from someone who is experiencing it. Also I know this is a drama thread but I’m hoping maybe you can give me some insight. Thanks again.

@misstrendy my D interviewed for D&P dept and is expecting to hear back late Feb. Over on the Film board, some kids have already gotten acceptances. I think it varies widely by department.

Gotcha. I’ll have to check out the film boards too. Thank you!!

Do you know when they let students know if they’re accepted? Is it through a letter or a phone call?

I do not know about actors, but D&P has told us late Feb/early March. A search of previous years’ CC posts suggest that those dates might be a bit early.

for drama they have called over the past 3 years to offer acceptances. Generally by the end of Feb/early March.

My s was just accepted for their screenwriting program and it was a letter via email from the Dean of Film that confirmed it. He interviewed 1/20 and found out 2/2. We’re still waiting to find out about financial aid. I’m not quite sure when we’ll know something about that. Good luck to all who are waiting.

Congrats, @misstrendy ! So jealous of your early notification! D applied in September, interviewed in November, and it feels like we are NEVER going to hear back.

@momof2lefties – so hope you hear something soon!

@misstrendy Congratulations! How exciting. This school seems so Magical! I’m sure your son will gain the experience of a lifetime. Hope you’re around in about 5 years to tell us about some feature film that he’s created in Hollywood

@momof2lefties hopefully it will be soon. I feel you on the waiting. Hang in there. I’m sincerely hoping you’ll hear some positive news and it will be worth the wait. @actingdreams thank you so much. I hope so too. He’s worked so hard to get here and I can only hope his next steps will be legendary.

In the past they start calling the week or weekend after LA unified weekend. LA unified is this weekend, If I hear calls are going out I will post something,

Just so everyone knows UNCSA started calling most of the kids that are getting accepted the last two days so they would save the date for their accepted student weekend. They are keeping I would guess 8-10 spots open because they still have have the last weekend of auditions this weekend.

@2lights when is the student weekend? Thanks.

@2lights are you talking Acting? D&P said back in December that they’d be making decisions around 2/24. Any idea if that has changed?
